I always found these quite fun. If they're on sale in the UK, a whole bunch of safety regs will apply. There's a company, I forget the name, been making them for years, so they're a new product rather than a hipster destruction of vintage hats. I suspect they only look like the real thingvonvthe outside, and the inner is quite different.

This thread made me smile. I love hats, but these lights don't bother me in the least, even if they did happen to be vintage pieces. What does bother me, however, is going to antique shops or art fairs and seeing frankensteined vintage watches that have been taken apart and their parts used to make rings or other jewelry. Makes me cringe every time. My wife thinks it's funny, and always tells me, "It's ok, Baby! They probably didn't work, anyway." That doesn't comfort me in the least! LOL! Guess I'm a nerd!

A problem is that some people making these industrially will use cheaper modern hats, but some cash-strapped "artist(s)" will buy up vintage stock to replicate it on the cheap. I've already seen old glass wash-room soap dispenser globes spoiled in the name of 'upcycling' nonsense.

Those people who say things like: 'I don't wear that [hat name in question here] so use 'em up..' are always excepting the possibility that their favourite hat will be spared, until they see it re-purposed as a hanging basket.
