Hmmmmm. I spent a bit of time examining it last evening, and if it ain't leather, then you sure could have fooled me! Does your vinyl case clearly look like vinyl, or is it very close to the look and feel of leather?

Cheers,
JtL

Yeah, I think mine is vinyl. Whether yours IS leather or you just THINK it is leather pretty much amounts to the same thing . . . satisfaction with your purchase. Didn't se out to poke a hole in your balloon, just trying to learn more about this model Stetson. Kim

very nice indeed.

I am usually of the 'if I ain't wearing it I don't want it around' mindset, but I'd probably keep this one as pristine as possible. I'd probably recrease but I'd leave the ribbon (I usually like wide ribbons but that one does look nice) and the hat as original as possible. I'd only wear it on nice days, not too much sun exposure and certainly no rain. Take it off and leave it off if you get a flat tire!!!:D

With the case and card, there's too much provenance there to mess with. This is a rare find. Congrats, enjoy and thank you for sharing! More pics would be great!

Sorry if I missed it - was this an ebay find?

Well, Kim, upon micro-inspection, I have to agree with you. The case is done in vinyl, although I prefer to refer to it as "faux-leather." :D If it hadn't been for your post, I don't think it ever would have occurred to me. Either way, it truly is a beautiful case.

Cheers,
JtL

pgoat -- Many thanks. And yes, it was an eBay find.

Mr. H -- the right side of the hat gives the owner's name and position, "Executive Assistant to Sheriff," a title he assumed in 1958. His title changed shortly thereafter, which is what allows the Seller to date the lid with a fair degree of certainty.

Cheers,
JtL

You say that the case is covered with leather. I've seen a few Stetson 100 cases on eBay that were described as leather, but my apparently identical case is covered with vinyl, or something of that sort. Are you sure it is leather? Perhaps some were and some were not. Just curious. Kim

great score. Well worth the price. I'm an archivist so I really appreciate the full package you found. This is the type of thing they oooh and ahhh over on shows like Antiques Roadshow and Cash in the Attic. I'd enjoy the hat but try to keep it pristine and original. I bet the value will rise steadily in time.

Not to veer off topic too much but after re reading this post and ogling these pics, RBH - your avatar pic also shows a great crease and I am not minding that narrow ribbon (I normally don't like em!)

so cool! Thanks!!

I've never bought an Akubra, but must try one based on all the raves here. I did try a Stetson OR once...I may go for Art's Route 66 and ask for your crease with that tight pinch. Not sure about the small ribbon for me yet - though the whole look really works for you! Well done.

ok, my bad , back to OP's topic!!

The Stetson 100 arrived today, and all I can say is, "Wow!". The leather case, in and of itself, is just beautiful. The hat is in absolutely mint condition -- it's hard to tell that it's ever been worn. I've had a hard time tearing myself away from pawing the felt on this lid. It is a medium thickness and smooth as velvet. There is a "JBS" Branding Iron pin on the ribbon. The liner features the "Last Drop from His Stetson" design, which is embroidered. The liner crown is covered with a very thin film of plastic. Brim width is 2 3/4 inches.

Interestingly, the case contains a card which reads, "Compliments of G. Henry Stetson" (son of John B., who took over the reins of the Stetson Company when John B. died in 1906).

This one's a real treasure.

Can you share photos of your Stetson 150? I recollect such an animal being posted before - perhaps by Dinerman.
Yes I will but I am new to this site so it may take me a while to figure out how. I do love the Stetson history at one time I had over 125 before I started to downsize.
