Shelly, I'm sorry to hear that. I can't stand it when people put the blame on the victim. Somehow though, it always boils back to being the victim's fault and I can totally relate.

A few years ago when I was a teacher, I had my gradebook on my desk (common practice for teachers) since I always mark my attendance in there. Well, at some point during the class a student got up and took my tube of lotion and squeezed lotion all over the page I had it opened to. (You might say how did you not see them? At the time, my classroom was a computer lab and during that particular class the students were working on the computers and I was heavily involved in helping students with their projects and answering questions and such. So a kid probably distracted me and and other one snuck up there and did the dirty deed)

Well, I see what has happened after the class leaves and go to get my assistant principal to tell him what happened. He had the audacity to tell me that I shouldn't have lotion on my desk. Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I conctacted the mag company, and they are resending the issue. Yay.

Now Im expecting a package that should have arrived. Im worried because it was a small, but valuable package, and I think the tool of a mail person may have left it on the post box pre my rant. Im gonna be livid if it got stolen!

I agree with Lizzie in her criticism of modern society's tendency to refuse to castigate the criminal. There is a hilarious sendup of this in the first Mad Max movie (the one before Road Warrior) where a criminal parrots some PC talk like that (it's not my fault, I have a problem ....)

I suppose if we are to squeeze anything useful out of the (annoying) tendency for people to tell us we should not have left the magazine (or whatever) there, it is just that we have to be extremely cautious in this world.

But Shelley, you DO live in the Tenderloin ... I lived there for years as you know and I would not have left nothin' nowhere anyone else could have got their grimy paws on it.

(Is that blaming the victim? I hope not.)

Any word on that package? If I were you I would contact the post office and let them know what's been happening if maybe other neighbors could be having something similar happen, they may want to investigate, but then again this is the postal service, so maybe they wouldn't investigate.
