Fascinating place. I remember crossing Independence Pass to get there in the middle of August, and encountering a snowstorm. The history of that town, including H.A.W. Tabor and his wife Baby Doe, is really interesting.

I don't recall having heard of either before visiting there and wondering just who might have been the Tabor person for whom the town's opera house is named.

Another odd FL thing is that when I click on the link to far right in the "menu" or list of threads to get to the latest post in a particular thread, if there were a lot of pictures in the prior posts in the thread (at least that seems to be the trigger), the system doesn't take me to the latest post but to an older one further up and, then, you have to scroll down to get to the latest post.

It's a real small thing, but it would seem an easy thing to correct in programming.

Besides the FL, this also happens on the search engine everywhere.
If I choose to check out a specific item, in this case the “Horsehide jacket”.
I click on “visit”.
The system does not always take me directly to the item illustrated.
If the item was listed on “eBay” and the bidding has ended, the photo & information
most likely won’t be available after a certain period.

how come, when I pull up the FL Message Board, the accompanying pop-up ad is for a really ugly leather baseball cap?

It's just google catering to your every consumerist need...if you start to see men's leather thongs & G-strings 'popping up' it might be advisable to delete your google search history before logging on to the forum to avoid any embarrasment should someone be looking over your shoulder. :D

The top one used to signify that the PB user had either removed/moved that particular photo from/in their album/library & the second is unfortunately a result in the recent change in Photobucket's 3rd party hosting conditions, in which they broke millions of image links throughtout the world, before demanding a hefty annual fee, for the privilege of using their site to post piccies online.

Based on PB's, now, nearly daily importuning to get me to sign up for its paid service, I am increasingly hopeful that the company's new strategy - which included abruptly screwing all its old users - is failing and soon the company will die.

I have no problem with a company switching to a subscription from free service, but a thoughtful-and-respectful-to-all-its-old-users process would have been nice and not the "hey, drop dead or pay us" approach it took.

According to The Denver Post ~ July 2017.
"Photobucket's decision could be a good move in the long term, as it will have fewer important customers to keep happy, as well as lower operating costs.

The move to a paid model isn't a bad one --its the execution thats been lacking."

Fewer customers & lower operating costs isn't a particularly good business model, a growing user base plus increased customer satisfaction & moderate operating costs is a much better one. :D
I think everyone is agreed that PB handled the transition extremely badly but aren't against a change in policy per se. If PB had taken the time to consult it's users, they could have made a much smoother & less acrimonious change over & kept the good will of many, if not most, of it's users. The direction chose to go down the blackmail route so que sera sera.

Photobucket's chief problem is that it is a small shop, with 50-some employees and little way
to make a profit.
About 75 percent of Photobucket's costs come from hosting non-paying users' photos on
third-party websites.
Historically, Photobucket largely was supported by ads -- but in recent years the site has
received almost zero revenue from non-paying users, who typically ignore the ads.

In the short term, the name "Photobucket” has triggered cursing across the Internet,
as blogs and forums -- as well as eBay, Etsy and Amazon -- suddenly are filled with the
same annoying graphic. This won't represent an opportunity for another hosting service either.

If Photobucket can't make money by hosting third-party images for free, then no other service
is likely to embrace a similar model."

I agree with Fading Fast in the manner PB has gone about in resolving the issue.

Except for the initial e-mail or three, I haven't received anything from them. I'm guessing the fact that I immediately retrieved and subsequently deleted all of my files from their site was a sign that I was not at all interested in paying an extortion fee for their flawed services. Or maybe it was the single image file I left behind to passive-aggressively express my displeasure:

:D

If they had simply been more honest and direct and less greedy, explained to their "free" users that it does indeed take money to operate and maintain the site, and asked for a nominal fee of, say, $5 a month or $50 a year, I think their former users might have been more receptive and the backlash would likely have been minimal or non-existent. But to go from "free" to "$400 a year" is an awfully big ask, and for a lot of people (myself included) it simply isn't affordable.

The final changeover from the good old classic analog landline-network in old Germany to the only digital IP-based landline-network, now. For many many "classic" people, which just want to surf and telephone, it will be and it already is worse than before.

The surfing-quality will be and is of course the same, but the telephoning-quality will be and is worse than before, because the classic phone-plug has now to be plugged into the poor sockets of the usual massmarket-IP routers and this brings a worse transmission-quality than before.

But it's not a big problem for me personally, because I don't have to telehone often. And my old, "antique" DSL-router is an IP-compatibel model, so, I don't have to buy a new router, for the present.

Backround:
The big german "Deutsche Telekom AG" (still landline-monopolist) is a usual capital-company since 1995, so, it's market-economy and it's not worth for them, to run two parallel landline-systems, further.
