Question to you life-experience!:

My transportable mini oven went over the brigde, today. I switched to my main kitchen oven and my pizza was fine, better than from the mini oven.

Now, I thought about it, but I tend to hold on my main kitchen oven instead of buying a new mini oven. Of course, the main oven sucks the double of power, but I heared, that they are much better isolated than the mini oven.

What do you think? :)

Maybe this should be on the corona virus thread, but my Missus and I have, to the best of our ability, followed our government's guidelines throughout the lockdown, (I prefer house arrest.) Does anyone else feel that mask wearing is nothing more than a placebo? Believe you me, I do not advocate not wearing a mask and with a retired paramedic in the house it would be folly in the extreme not to follow the guidelines, but I can't help but wonder if the mask is giving us all a false sense of security.

The mask isn't to protect me, it's to protect you from whatever I might be exhaling. Anyone expecting any barrier technique to be 100 percent effective is bound to be disappointed, but going maskless is absolutely guaranteed to be zero percent effective in preventing aerosol spread.

I wonder if the anti-maskers also don't bother to cover their mouths when they sneeze, or go around coughing in the face of the poor soul in the Clown's drive thru window? It's less about heremetically sealing yourself and more having the common courtesy not to hack up whatever you might be carrying into someone else's face.

If it's any consolation, the same type of questions were raised in 1918, when there were still plenty of people who didn't believe in the Germ Theory of Disease. "We've Come So Far."

We cannot get our cat Lilah to stop playing with Q-tips.

We had a cat, Henry, that liked Q-tips. We didn't find it problematic or at all annoying. In fact we gave them to him. I suppose that distracted him from seeking out used ones from the bathroom garbage. Our other cat, Lola - 12 yrs old, likes to play with socks - she'll toss them in the air and chase them around. Poor thing is off to the vet in a few minutes. She's been yacking more than usual and is off her food and lethargic. Fingers crossed.

I was 62 years old when I got my first brand-new, never-been-slept-on bed. I didn’t feel particularly deprived by this. I had plenty of perfectly serviceable, reasonably low-mileage mattresses throughout my life to that point (and maybe a couple of not so great ones). But the queen-size bed we had had for some teens of years was getting toward the end and we both wanted a king-size adjustable. So we splurged.

Today, I "tested" boxspring beds in a store just for fun, while my mother just wanted to get a specific towel from the store.

The matresses of the boxspring beds were surprisingly soft! The first one was so soft, I sank in with my 70 kilograms! o_O Maybe it was H1 (softest grade in Germany). The others were still soft.

But actually, I don't yet need a normal-height bed. I still can get out of my Futon like a young god. :D

That's very kind of you to ask. Thank you.

The vet really couldn't tell much. The physical examination suggested that everything was relatively ok for a 12yr old cat, though there was concerning weight loss. She's just under 8 pounds where as three years ago she was 11. Bloodwork showed her kidneys were fine (THAT was a relief) but that there was evidence of pancreatitis. So she was sent home with something to settle her stomach and an appetite stimulant (a vaseline like goo that gets applied inside the ear). We have since gotten some pain meds . The stimulant took a day to kick in which was nerve wracking as she's just a bag of bones and is quite zombie-like (indicative of pain?) and sleeps (in the back of a hallway blanket closet) just about all the time. The appetited meds kicked in and she seems to want to eat a lot, but reluctantly. She likes the brothy chicken I cooked for her. Hopefully things will brighten soon. I try to be hopeful, but she's so frail and fragile which makes it difficult.

DAMN THESE PETS!!! They get into our lives and hearts so! Much as she's been a major pain in the ass throughout her life (she's a calico), I've developed a close bond with her in recent years, and she has a special bond with my wife and son (ESPECIALLY with him) too. We understand that 12-15 is the typical life span, but the beginning of the end hurts nonetheless. Life will go on though, and we will be better for having had her in our lives.

Exactly!

BUT, the 90s were totally opposite and (short, mostly black) leggings were BIG deal for women AND men and all children in summer! Back then it was all about comfort.

Apropos of the VAT vs. "plus tax" controversy mentioned in this video, having lived in the U.S. all my life, I find the VAT concept creepy.

But the real point I'd like to raise is "plus S&H" a.k.a. "plus P&H". Goods offered in TV commercials are usually priced at some dollar amount and 99 cents or 95 cents, "plus shipping and handling". Very often a second item is offered at "no additional charge (just pay a separate shipping and handling fee)".
No additional charge? Huh.

I have often asked my TV (and got no response), "I don't mind paying the postage, but what if I'd prefer that you NOT handle my purchase? How much cheaper would it be?" I understand that if I live in a remote area, far from the point of origin of the package, that it costs more to get the goods to me than if I lived around the corner, but "handling"? That can't be more expensive no matter where I live. Just bake that into the price and be done with it!

"Handling" is a transparent attempt to "build value" into the customer's perception. Do the advertisers really believe that we are so dull as to not see this?

Just last night I saw a product offered that interested me. Then the "plus shipping and handling" text appeared on the screen. I picked up my iPhone, went to Amazon, found the product at half the price and no "S&H".

VAT or value added tax was an easy 8% when introduced. We used to have the American style purchase tax. VAT got hiked a couple of times, it now stands at 20%. We were told that it was to harmonise VAT across Europe, yeah right.

How I agree with you about add ons. At the risk of Lizzie's ire, I hate booking fees. If I can't actually buy at the advertised price because there are handling fees, booking fees and any other creative fee that we can think of, then you shouldn't be allowed to advertise the product at the price minus those fees. Our airlines are past masters at it.
