Ralph Fiennes suspender button placement in the new 007 movie was terrible. Outside that, the movie was splendid. But must think on it a bit more to be sure.

I was pretty keen on all the wears Tom Ford made for Daniel Craig. Very well tailored and fitted for a man with a muscular physique. Very little leeway for any fat. I particularly was fond of the tab collars Craig wore. You see the entire film as having Craig channel that clean "man cutting through the city" look of the 1960s. It was quite an effect to my eye seeing Craigs wears next to those that they put Fiennes in. Fiennes looks were a bit more 90s in style with cloth that was cut to drape away... built up shoulders to the jackets, shirts that bloused out. Fiennes clothing looked clumsy and staid, even if just by a tad when juxtaposition to the clean action ready look of Craig. Very well done.

I find it interesting that 50 years after the first Bond film, men's fashion has gone full circle and returned to the slim Continental style again ( or perhaps more accurately a facsimile of the original style). Ralph Fiennes' suits just looked wrong, I'm glad it wasn't just my perception there Matt. I've never been a Bond fan but Craig brings a hint of actual menace to the character, and he seems to me more believable as a man who is prepared to kill to achieve the end that's needed. I just couldn;t take Timothy Dalton et al seriously.

Yup, his trousers are following the current trend and cut way tight and a little short. They remind me of '20s trousers.

In some pics I've seen it looks like his jacket is cut too tight.

I'd like to see more pics of Fiennes suits.

Ive read that the suits had to be altered to look better in the motorcycle sequence. Pulling far too much & sleeves riding up showing way too much cuff. Sounds a bit contrived, but thats showbiz

Im not sure who to blame, Tom Ford or the costumer. It all seems way too tight.

Craig doesnt seem to be wearing his suits quite as short on the Red Carpet.
The trousers definitely have a slight break.

When it comes to the trousers, they are going for the tight trendy... TRENDY look that is popular today. The look I cannot wear unless I have surgery, and I'm not about to have surgery to fit into a pair of trousers. There is no drape to the trousers and to me it's gives off an air of... well not tailoring skill as much as the need to make the trousers tight enough to show off a man's... you know.

Craig's physique isn't exactly common, and requires a certain amount of dedication in diet and picking up heavy lumps of metal to attain. The tailoring then builds on that to give him a distinct silhouette.

Take a look at this Sony advert. There are a couple of shots where Craig (or his stunt double ) is in shadow, but it looks like him. I suspect that part of the reason for the look.

As for the trousers, I suspect that a looser cut would make someone with Craig's shape look bulky, whereas the tighter cut appear more athletic.

That may be true about the general style of the day, but I recall some 60's Elvis movies where his trousers were cut a lot more like Craig's in Skyfall.

Man just look at the bottom hem of the jacket it should "fall' just between the two jointsof the thumb ,look at how high it is ??

That's an old wives tale that has gained steam from the alterations tailors at department stores and dry cleaners. Suit length, properly fitted, should be based on a person's physique regardless of arm length as that can vary greatly within people of the same height. Quality tailors will place the jacket hem midway between a client's jacket collar seam and the floor, making sure to cover the buttocks; which is paramount.

Some of the suits in this film were pretty cool. I particularly liked the royal/navy blue pinstriped three-piece. I can't say I liked the grey suit that Craig wore. It looks far too pinched and tight and skinny...and incredibly uncomfortable.

Well the current trend is more skinny than slim.
Its a harkening to the 60s look, but not executed well. Too skinny, too wrinkled. TOO wrinkled.

I think ratpack designer Sy Devore did a lot of elvis' post army costumes. Lots of pegged narrow pants.

The brake is Ballocks! If the fabric had the body and structural integrity to handle a break it would be one thing, but that atrocity of a suiting fabric most certainly and woefully does NOT. It looks like a brushed sateen finished polyester! It should have been a Very stout and rigid mohair at the least to handle a break, furthermore, the trousers are too tight to support a break. If they'd simply been done slim and with a rigid fabric (and enough room for the "crease" not to have been splayed out by being pulled tight against the leg, they might have been able to cope with that scurrilous suiting fabric, though a stout mohair still would have been better in my own opinion, or a merino wool silk blend (but mohair's better for that 60s aesthetic). Anyway, you get the idea..... The whole point of the look of the period which they're aping with the bond films is minimalism, not cheapness and clinginess, that said, they should have gone for clean lines, visible creases and simplified structure, and NO trousers breaks as trousers were done in the 1960s!

Apparently, our "family" sold out to the Bonds of Scotland. Been doing internet research lately on my surname and discovered that the ancient estate originally owned by a predecessor family, (have no idea if actually related), sold their estate in Balmaghie Scotland to the Bond family in the 18th century.
