This Columbia came in last week. I sized up because I wanted to layer in it but the action back is batwinging/puffing out pretty egregiously. The jacket is a virtually unworn stock 44 from 1998.
Am I delusional to think that I can eliminate the batwinging by breaking it in and softening up the leather so the back falls instead of bunching up at the rear shoulders? Fit feels pretty solid from the front.

Hmm, pretty big in the shoulders too. You already wear a thick jumper, so little chance of „filling it out“ further.
The extra fabric will not go away with break-in. You can try to shrink it a bit by soaking in hot water, if you decide to keep it.
Its not unwearable though, and the hide looks mighty nice.
