Another thing to hate about the 70s----Monza......
That is the fastest a Granada has EVER went.A friend of mine's mom had the Granada in white with a red top, and red interior.
The best feature, was the fact it was a mule for my friend's dad to test out Nitrous kits he had designed for "home" use.
This was in the mid 70's, and by the mid 80's he was selling the kits through Summit Racing.
My only full memory of the car, is when we were headed to the store, and somebody cut out in front of us.
"Ann" hit the horn, but unfortunately she hit the left side of the wheel, where the switch was.
Foot to the floor, and palm on the switch, resulted in an immediate acceleration akin to being hit from behind by a speeding bus.
Oh sure we had a blast literally, but my friend's mom was not a happy camper. ound:
Nice score, Tom! I always liked the front end on those 73-79s. Congrats!
I assume it's a half ton, single cab, long bed? What's in it for running gear?
Sounds like the internal seals are dry. Has it been regularly used or sitting? I would try some of that transmission conditioner stuff first to see if it will lubricate it up. Change the transmission fluid first to see if it helps then add the conditioner if that doesn't do it.
Pulled the trigger yesterday. 1981 Suburban. Its in very nice shape. It made the two hour trip home with no problem. She drives like a Cadillac.
Gotta love the roll down rear-windows on those!
Thanks Tom. It has the same running gear as you pickup. Half ton, 350 with the 350 auto tranny and 3.08 gears.Nice Choice! Which engine does it have? Gotta love the roll down rear-windows on those!
Thanks Dale. It is very straight with zero rust, thanks to the Ziebart treatment, which add 400 extra pounds to the truck. [emoji14]Until you accidentally bump the edge of it with something heavy while the tailgate is down. That pop, and ensuing shower of little pieces echoing inside the tailgate are not happy sounds.

Also congrats on the pickup, Tom.

Thanks! It's a half-ton, single cab, long box, 2wd, 350 4bbl/TH350. I really like that it's factory A/C, cruise, tilt wheel, an the embedded antenna. Makes it a bit less "run of the mill."
Turned out to be the plastic gear in the governor on the trans. A ten dollar part, and we're back in business. Apparently an issue from pounding the vehicle/burnouts. No surprise from my sister and brother-in-law. I had to have the truck to save it from its previous fate. It was to be painted pink and they were calling it "the burnout machine."
Nice find. It looks like it is well kept.:thumb:
The Plastic gear? You can't replace it with a metal one?
The Burnout Machine rides again.
Thought about it, but seeing as I baby it, and the gear lasted almost 40 years before someone decided it needed some abuse, I think it'll be okay.
Thanks! She is really nice. Rust free, and the interior is mint. The old man put 122,000 miles on it himself, and it was always garaged. It needs new valve cover gaskets, but that's about it. I will take care of that this week.
I'll be over later to see if it is a Burnout Machine too. [emoji14]
