I too like to see interesting bits of embellishments on ties. The details make life interesting.
I've recently discovered I have too many red ties. It is time for me to stop purchasing red ones and maybe have a Lounge sale.

The pleated jobs are so very Deco, especially at the tip. I want one in Navy.


I'll run it by the good people at Charvet. They've been making ties since day one and they do aim to please. Who knows, they may even have a pattern in stock from back in the day.


This ain't gonna be cheap..........

It will probably be cheaper than the pleated tie currently selling on Ebay for $550!

The first tie features a pattern/motif which was very popular in the late '40s; it's featured in various tie books. What is the material, and how much did you pay for it? The second appears to be '80s, at least to me.

The second one looks familiar. It is very unusual for the period, but I think it is a fifties one done by a name designer. I want to say Countess mara, but I don't think that is it.

There is damage to the box but the set is in pristine condition. The tie is approx 48".

This Week's Tie Finds

I think the wool tie on the left is from the 30s. It's 45" long, looks and feels pretty old. Here's the back and the tag:

The grey one next to it has a tag on the back that reads, Knights of Malta. Will the Pope send assassins after me if I wear it?

Wow! Late '50s? Seems too "primitive" for that time period, but patent dates don't lie. However, I'm pretty sure Dacron was invented in 1950...

That's about right. Very difficult to tell 30s from 40s from early 50s with the British ties. Most of 'em look exactly like that one, with just that construction at the "wide" end and placement of label. Nice!

The seller wrote me back and said that he would have preferred to have started with a dollar bid, and work up to a reserve, but that the customer he represents had other ideas.
