That was what I was thinking. Imagine the person that actually bought the tie originally. They must have been fairly wealthy to blow that much on a tie. Equal to a Sulka tie of the same age.

Sometimes I wonder if these styles were actually early-40s. I've seen some flicks from that period with similar patterns being worn. Might they be banana leaves?

Yeah, tell me about it. We did a Camera Lucida session on cell cultures about 7 years ago - great fun, but really awfully time consuming!

Another Sear’s Pilgrim Cravats necktie, dating again from the middle 1940s, like the fossils tie of a few days ago. I bought this in the same lot of ties, so I guess they were bought by the same fellow and never worn. A strange array of brown splotches and yellow lines, which seems a bit like a mad town planning map, a warped and twisted gridiron, with plots of land for building or open space, and roads in between.
