Managed to get a leather pocket watch strap to be attached to a lapel buttonhole at least. It's the perfect length (about 22cm), with a carved mother of pearl button (looking like an owl) to go through the buttonhole.

That watch is just a modern gift - I do have a vintage watch, but it's in need of repair and haven't had it done yet as I can't justify the cost at the moment. Still, the modern one keeps time perfectly, so it will do for now.

It's been a good week of thrift shopping - found a vintage Persian Lamb jacket and matching hat for $12 (too big for my wife, but immediately dibbed by Miss 1929), a pristine pair of women's spectator heels in dark blue faux lizard (which do fit my my wife) for $5.99 and an iconic Canadian sealskin belt for .99.

My beau and I were out "hunting" today and he found a 1958 Pyrex Amish "Butterprint" casserole dish. It was kind of adorable when he spotted it...he distinctly remembers his mother owning the same patterned cookware when he was a child so he was pretty excited when he saw it tucked away in the antique shop!

We would love to get a set of mugs with the same pattern but cannot seem to find them anywhere! Does anyone know if such a thing exists?

A few of my best most recent thrifty finds -

These two platters/dishes found at two different St Vincent de Paul shops, 1950s Australian pottery. And my friend just found me a third at another Vinnies! They're signed CT, got no idea who that is. They were $3 and $2.

This lizard skin 1940s-50s handbag, $2 at a Salvation Army shop (click to see larger):

And these fabulous rocket ship glasses, $1 each also at a Salvos! (click to see larger)

I found three more of them at a vintage store for a bargain price too, so I have the full set of six. I'm waiting for a nice matching pitcher to come my way now!

Hey Harpy!

The dishes & shot glasses look beautiful!

Sunday, 14th March, 2010. Look what I found at the flea-market!:

Early 1900s Mabie Tood & Co "Swan" eyedropper-filler fountain pen in black chased hard-rubber with gold cap-decorations. Here's a writing-sample:

It cost $60.

Not the kinda colour that I would buy, but that sure looks damn comfy!! I could just snuggle up there and sleep.

After doing a bit more research, I have pretty much pinpointed the pen that I bought at the market.

It's a 1908 Mabie Todd & Co "Swan" eyedropper filler with an over-under feed made of black chased hard rubber.

And it works flawlessly!! :)

The restored pen with a modern eyedropper to fill it up with ink.

The pen successfully disassembled. It took two days of very patient cleaning and gentle hands to get this thing open without having it shatter in my hands and leave me with two handfuls of antique crap.

Hi everyone I'm new here but I already adore this forum..

Ok so I have found various items at my local recycle centre, newspapers and people have given me things as a gift.

I got this camera yesterday for £4..I'm not sure how old it is but I love it and my fiance is a HUGE camera fanatic so i bought it...if any on can shed some light on its age etc that would be great!

I got a few 60/70's suitcases as a gift but also got two others for £8 at a recycle centre! They are much earlier, around 1950 i should think

60's satchels from a recycle centre - The thing I love most about this is that it still has the 1st owners name and address of there...adds a touch of mystery! :p

my favorite things are from the 40's and 50's and i desperately want to add a 50's car to my list but I've just passed and can barely afford it -_-.I will make it my conquest.
