Was browsing a local thrift store this afternoon and came across this dandy little sport coat in my size. The fabric and cut struck me as being very similar to that of a coat worn by actor John Payne in the later half of Kansas City Confidential. Here are a few screen shots for comparison. I'd been looking for a suitable stand-in for that very coat as a wardrobe piece for my ongoing film noir project which intercuts scenes culled from classic public domain noirs with newly shot and matched footage to tell a new all original story - similar to what was done in Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. This should do nicely.

Well, that's pretty neat looking.. does that mean I'm missing the ball? The pumps look different.

It might have been a different shaped container but there as a container and it would have been chrome. The pumps do look different but it would fit---I think.

This is a thrift store find. Already, both my son and my daughter want to take it off me, lol! It was a bit dusty so I gave it a good wash. I tested it with water and it works great.

Not much, but interesting local history. I picked up this file box at Goodwill. It has a vintage "Monkey Ward" auto club sticker, and a Youngstown name and address. I researched it, and the man apparently passed away in 1995. As of 2011, his house still existed. Youngstown is largely urban prairie of vacant lots, like Detroit only less affluent. > There are only vacant lots across the street in this view. The house on the McGuffy Ave side of this was boarded up and vacant as of 2011. Who knows, maybe the entire block has been burned down by now.

These have got to be the ugliest salt and pepper shakers I've ever owned and I've never heard of Captain Midnight and Joyce but I couldn't resist them at the thrift today:

Look up Captain Midnight. You will see a whole lot more than I can describe. You found a treasure there. They might be ugly but I think you can make your money back easily if you find the right fan.

Hmmm, it seems decoder rings and badges do pretty well at auction but I can't find any records for S&P shakers. Hopefully, that means "rare", lol!

Rare is right. It is the first time I have ever seen salt and pepper shakers. Go get $50 for them to start.

Look up Captain Midnight. You will see a whole lot more than I can describe. You found a treasure there. They might be ugly but I think you can make your money back easily if you find the right fan.

I've been researching Captain Midnight and it seems he's had a couple of incarnations. In the original radio program which began in 1938, he was a WW1 pilot who, pre-WW2, was sent on secret missions and had interesting adventures. When the comic books came out in 1941, he became a "superhero" with superpowers and the traditional skintight suit. Judging by the clothing and the presence of Joyce, it seems my S&P shakers are based on the radio serial character. Good, he's much more cool.

Been doing a lot of antiquing and bargain hunting on my trip around china. So far, I have one fountain pen, one raid siren, one carved bone opium pipe, one folding fan, and one "xiao hong shu", or "little red book", the famous pocketbook of quotations of chairman Mao. I still have one more city in china to visit. Who knows what I might find, and then, I'm off to Malaysia before I go home.

Great period graphics on that game, here's my weekends finds;

The four wool ties including one 'four in one' , Ofrex stapler and staples, were charity shop items, 'alpine' walking stick, 2x walking canes (one with silver mounts), jug and suitcases were all car boot items- not shown is an 80's does 40's Burton silk tie and an unworn pair of Wrangler jeans in my size complete with tags, total for the lot twenty six English pounds, not a bad weekend especially since I needed a new pair of work jeans!
