At this point, I view it like I viewed childbirth, it was painful but I might be talked into it again once I forget about it.

Extremely off topic, so forgive me. My two grown sons (ages 22 and 24) were in a very serious car accident this weekend. The youngest was hurt the worst and is still in the hospital. He has had many procedures thus far including two surgeries. Spider, my big boy, looks like someone took a baseball bat to him. Here he is less than 48 hours after the picture of the two of us above:

And here is what is left of the car that they were in:

Miss Carey, I agree that is a great picture of me and the boy, made more poignant by the fact that I could have so easily lost him. I'll print it and get a proper frame for it.

Slim with two adult sons myself I feel for you mate....vaya con Dios mate....

I miss Austin so much.

I don't have any tattoos, as I cannot think of anything that is unique or personal enough to me to get inked on my body... I'll keep trying though, I don't give up without a fight.

Nice tattoo Yazoo. Do you play?

As per post #469 on this thread, I got this on Friday night:

Came as part of a his/hers set:

Hers has the lightning bolts because of the death dealing blows that arm can deliver. Mine has a hook for the fire service. A few other modifications beyond the off the rack fare.

This is my first and only tattoo, a 3/4 sleeve done in traditional Japanese style. In my culture, tattoos are reminiscent of gangs and a criminal element, and my family is very much anti-tattoos (especially as a girl). It was a fairly big deal for me to get one since it meant standing up for my own beliefs in terms of getting something beautiful and meaningful done, and living my life according to my own rules and not my family's (which to me was a big deal). I never thought I would get one and one day I saw this image of myself with this tattoo, and it seemed the natural recourse. The snake is a symbol of healing (shedding skin, Caduceus) and the peonies are a feminine symbol which counterbalance the snake as a masculine symbol.

I have six tattoos in all lol , a rather hideous tramp stamp that I got when I was 17 (to celebrate passing my Leaving Cert), a random design on each wrist, a naked faerie on my neck, another random design on the top of my back (my friend designed it!) and finally a set of cherries on my right leg which I got in May to celebrate finally being discharged from hospital after nearly 5 years! Here it is:

the designs were taken from an original 1930's obi & kimono design catalogue & customised by fantastic tattooist adam kitamoto of ten-ten in melbourne - i really wanted something that was less of a traditional japanese tattoo style but more similar to japanese fabric design of the 30's....

This is really inspiring and SO beautiful. I adore 50s fabric and ceramics patterns and would love a tattoo based on some of my favourites. I don't want a 50s style tattoo - I want a tattoo of 50s styles!

This kind of thing is my inspiration for the patterns:

I just need to find the right artist. I'm unsure of the protocol with tattoo artists - what do you do if you don't like the design they draw for you?

Miss Hannah, you can ask them to change it if you don't like their design. You should bring some reference pictures of what you want your tattoo to be, and also check out their portfolio to see if their style fits yours. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
