The official dates have yet to be announced, but don't worry, you'll know when it is:)! If it is anything like years past, it will be in November. Last year it was the weekend before Thanksgiving, I'm pretty sure the year before was as well. A lot of the out of towners tend to arrive on a Thursday, sometimes sooner. But the event usually officially starts on Friday afternoon. This is just what I know from years past, it could be totally different this year so don't take anything I say as actual fact for this years events. In the past, Friday afternoon we kick the weekend off at The Observation Bar for kind of a meet and greet. Friday evening is usually the "fancy" night. A chance for us gals to wear our gowns. Saturday during the day MK sets up quite a few different activities, including (again this is just from past events) classes on various vintage topics, fashion shows, and his now famous off the record tour of the ship. MK's tour is definitely the best way to learn about the QM! Saturday evening is another vintage dinner, but he usually makes arrangements for something more casual, although we do all wear vintage, the men tend to wear suits or their Indy Gear, the ladies dress ranges from nice slacks, suits. cocktail dresses to gowns. I don't have enough events where I get to wear a gown, so I'm gonna see if I can find one for the second night as well. On Sunday people who will be around do their own thing. Usually people will post on the thread what it is they would like to do to see if others want to join them. It seems that a lot of the out of towners go home on Sunday. Last year I kind of felt like I missed out on some fun on Sunday, so I'm gonna see if I can swing staying through Sunday night. Although last year by Sunday I was exhausted, since I'd basically been traveling for over 2 weeks. I don't recommend flying from Italy to Boston to California in the course of a day and a half, the time difference can really be confusing. When I finally got home, I think it took me about three days to figure out what the right day and time were:eek: So this year I'm gonna be nice and rested for the QM. Although I wasn't the only person weary from travel. There were some other loungers who shall remain anonymous, who fell asleep at the dinner table!lol

Anyway, I hope this gives you an idea of what the weekend is like. I have a feeling that this years event is gonna be a really big one. Keep your eye out for an announcement. It might be a little while, but it should happen. Also, in past years MK managed to block a group of rooms at a set price, which was great. Although the people who work at the QM aren't all that bright! So be very clear with them when you make your reservation. Last year, even though we told them we were with the group, they over charged us and gave us a lower grade room. Yes, the room was nice, but we paid for a 1st class stateroom, they didn't put us in one and charged us too much:(

OK, sorry I just got a bit excited thinking about the event!!!! It's gonna be a great time. So many new people have joined in the past year, it's gonna be great to get to meet you all face to face:)

Back on topic (sorry again:eek: ) Thanks so much for the dress compliments:) I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the marks on the cape. I bought another dress from this seller a while back and he described it as having some marks. When I got it the dress was in near mint condition, so I'm hoping that this is the case with this one........

Think QM ladies, it's like one really big vintage fashion show:D I'm also thinking about it because it's motivating me to drop a few pounds:eek:

:eek:fftopic: I do believe it was Miss Bella Hell that questioned the thumbnail size at Specialist Auctions and it has now been fixed so it should be much easier on the eyes. http://www.specialistauctions.com/categories.php?parent=6271

Now back on topic. I see all this great jewelry and dresses but what about hats? Doesn't anyone else besides me collect those?

Here are a couple of my most recent purchases.

Daisy - I saw the green dress with the cape and loved it, I love that color. I love that little starfish pin too!

Texasgirl - I also like that 1920s green floral dress, so cute, and hard to find.

Klara congrats on winning that darling pin. I just saw one exactly like it on ebay, is that where you got it? I'm glad someone here won it:)

Everyone is getting such lovely things!!:eusa_clap But, what else could I expect from a group of lovely ladies:)

JBD and I went to a small antiques mall today around the corner from where Hemingway Jones works. Both places had a great selection of accessories. The first place we went into had much better prices, and the two of us got some very cute pins, earrings, and a few other goodies, all for really good prices. JBD got some really cute pins, one of which is this very cool telephone MIC and the card it's on has directions for use; you're supposed to put a small picture of yourself on the card along with your phone number and give it to a potential beau. It's really darling:)
The second store in the mall had a lot of bakelite. But, their prices were so incredibly high, even higher than some of the ridiculous prices on ebay. We managed to find a few very reasonable and very pretty handbags, and I got a cute plastic Scottie pin, but the bakelite didn't come home with us.

Of course seeing all of that bakelite made me want some. I just won this bracelet on ebay. I saw a bracelet very similar to this one at the antique store going for $180!! I won this beauty for $20!!!!!! I'm very happy. I almost want to bring it into the antiques mall and see how much they will buy it from me for. Maybe I'll make some money off of it. But, I only own 2 bakelite bracelets, and I've always wanted a decorative one like this so I'm not sure if I could let it go.
Well here's what I got on the bay today. All of which were very good prices. I think my favorite is the sweetheart charm bracelet. It even has a charm of NYC, and I collect NYC memorabilia so I was glad to win this:)

Daisy, both of those dresses are amazing .. While everyone swoons over the Cape Dress (and I am too, but ..) I just adore that Brocade number.
What's going on on the sides of that one? Is it pleated or just little ribbons for accent?

Everyone has such wonderful purchases! In an attempt to post more often, here are a few of mine:

Got these from Ebay the other day (they are enormous and so cute)

Celluloid fruit earrings from the Chelsea vintage fair and are apparently from France.

1950s sequined cardigan. This was a complete bargain as I found it in a charity shop for £6!

Floral scarves - left is from Chelsea vintage fair, the right is from a charity shop

Beautiful 1950s dress, looks far better on than the hanger! I am wearing it in my icon. Chelsea vintage fair again and apparently from France too.
50sdress.jpg

Pretty earrings, probably 1950s, from a lady in Portabello Market who sells amazing vintage jewellery all for £5

1950s circle skirt from a vintage shop in Notting Hill

Heels for £2! Can't really go wrong for that price (although I just realised they need re-soling :eusa_doh:). Camden again.

This looks like a sarong but it isn't, the elastic waist snapped before I tried it on and I haven't got round to fixing it yet; it's more of a circle shape. Rokit, Covent Garden.

1950s grape earrings from Ebay. These are really painful!

Woooweeeee Sarah! Weclome to the lounge! What gorgeous goodies you've bought! I love that dress on you.. and those fruit earrings are darling! And that red and white blouse! LUCKY!!

Daisy, love the color of that gown with caplet. Sorta the shade I wanna paint my bathroom, lol! Hey, we wanna see more pics of you wearing all this garb, you're holding out on us! :p

Viv great hats. I need to start collecting more myself.

Texas, wonderful dress, you're right~ perfect for the Bonnie and Clyde event.

I'm having a helluva time finding navy shoes for my brother's wedding on the 26th! My dress is a late 30's navy number with white lace front. I bought one vintage pair on the bay, too small. Bought another great pair of vintage peeps-bay again, they fit, but are far too dark!! I've just bought these, so I hope they match AND arrive in time. Navy shoes are so scarce, you can't even find them in the stores. UGH!

Viviene, I love those hats and everyone elses purchases. Goldwyn, woo hoo on the yard sale bargain!!! :eusa_clap Okay I started out good today and I bought some roll type rollers and hot soft foam rollers for $6.00 but then I found another vintage shop that is only 15 minutes away from my house. Anyhow, this places prices are outrageous compared to what I am used to paying for vintage, but most of their merchandise is in near mint condition and they have clothes as far back as the victorian era. She had some gowns from Paris that made me dizzy just to look at them.

Anyhow, I spent way more than I am used to paying, but am happy with my purchases.

The first dress is the dress I am going to wear to the wedding in June. It looks wonderful on and has a Grace Kelly quality to it and I am actually going to attempt a Grace Kelly hair do to go with it.

The second one is absolutely adorable on. I just need to find a nice think black belt to go with it which I can pick up at a thrift. I can't wait to wear this one to work!

I now have to take it easy on purchases. :( :D
