Thumbs up KamiKat!

Seconded! :) Great look! I love early/mid-60s bouffant looks, both up and down. I can't wait til my hair grows another couple inches so I can try them! At the moment it's not even long enough to do a french twist, so the updos are out, and my layers mean that this, my ideal hairdo, doesn't look right either. :(

Anyway, I'm glad you can pull it off, Kamikat! :D

This is basically what I do with my hair most days.
It only takes about 5 minutes so it's quite easy to do haha.

I finally went out and purchased my first thing of Lottabody, and I love it!! Setting lotion was the key thing I was leaving out with my styles. The first night I set my hair in a wet set with sponge rollers and slept on it overnight. I admit, I was scared the next morning when I did my brushout. But after what seemed like hours of brushing, it finally got under control. A run-through with pomade, and my curls held for two days.

Last night, with two day old hair, I sprayed my hair damp with my setting lotion and did my first pin curl set. I slept on it, and this is what it looked like this morning. It may not be too fancy, but considering I was struggling with a basic pin curl set, I am very happy.

Thanks for the comments! Now that I am starting to get a little more use to the setting lotion, I am excited about the different styles I can attempt. I admit, it still is a work in progress with every set, but I am slowly learning. Judging by some posts from other ladies, setting your hair almost becomes second nature after practice.

I recently learned how to do the world's easiest beehive. This is my second time doing it. It's great for when I didn't feel like curling my hair the night before so it still looks like I put some kind of effort in.

Looks wonderful! Please share your secret...? :)

It looks like you have fairly long hair so this'll probably still be off limits to me, but I'd love to know anyway!

Well the way I've always known to do it before was where you'd maybe use a rat for volume, maybe not, and backcomb small layers, and just keep building it. But it never got big enough without a rat, and the rat would show. Then if you wanted to put it up you'd french twist the back.
This way I just separate the front from ear to ear and make a high ponytail at the crown with the rest. I backcomb the hell out of the entire ponytail so it makes a huge poof ball, and use a couple pins just to gently contain it and make sure there are no hanging bits. Then I comb the hair from the front over the poof ball, backcombed just slightly to keep it from separating, pin and tuck the ends in. This way you use ALL your hair, so you build height much more easily. It takes me under 10 minutes. My hair is about 14 inches (to the bra band) but I'm sure you can do this with shoulder-length hair too. If there isn't enough for height then you could just add the rat. And on that note, instead of using the kind of tube-shaped or donut-shaped rat we're used to seeing, you just get a hair net from walmart and put some false hair in it, like the kenekalon jumbo braid from the ethnic hair isle. Total cost is about 3$ :)

Edit: I'll also add that it holds very well, even without much hair spray. I feel like I have a hair cushion on my head lol. The first time I did it it lasted two days. This time what you're seeing is day 2 of the second time, and I just had to re-organize the front part a bit.

Thanks so much for the detailed instructions, Penny! This sounds reasonably easy, I just wish my hair was longer- my longest layers are not quite to my jawline, so I'll have to wait another few months before I can attempt this :( (why is it hair grows when you don't want it to, but not when you do...?)

Also, just an interesting point, I was reading these instructions, for how to do Audrey's famous Breakfast updo, which involves similar techniques. I have no idea how well this would work but it seems straightforward. If anyone tries or has tried it I would love to see the result! (vicarious living, and all that :p)

I just brushed out my first wet set, and I must say that I was very surprised. I followed a pattern (the glamorous casual one, I think) and I was very nervous about curling the right side in elevated pin curls. I think that the extra volume actually looks decent (although it was SO poodle-esque when I first started brushing!).

By the way, I'm new. Hi everyone!

I think the last black-to-red color was too much. I just can't get my hair to look smooth.
This is too front V rolls, then twisted up the back into 3 standing pincurls at the crown.
