My first attempt at a bouffant

I recently learned how to do the world's easiest beehive. This is my second time doing it. It's great for when I didn't feel like curling my hair the night before so it still looks like I put some kind of effort in.

Looks wonderful! Please share your secret...?
It looks like you have fairly long hair so this'll probably still be off limits to me, but I'd love to know anyway!

Well the way I've always known to do it before was where you'd maybe use a rat for volume, maybe not, and backcomb small layers, and just keep building it. But it never got big enough without a rat, and the rat would show. Then if you wanted to put it up you'd french twist the back.
This way I just separate the front from ear to ear and make a high ponytail at the crown with the rest. I backcomb the hell out of the entire ponytail so it makes a huge poof ball, and use a couple pins just to gently contain it and make sure there are no hanging bits. Then I comb the hair from the front over the poof ball, backcombed just slightly to keep it from separating, pin and tuck the ends in. This way you use ALL your hair, so you build height much more easily. It takes me under 10 minutes. My hair is about 14 inches (to the bra band) but I'm sure you can do this with shoulder-length hair too. If there isn't enough for height then you could just add the rat. And on that note, instead of using the kind of tube-shaped or donut-shaped rat we're used to seeing, you just get a hair net from walmart and put some false hair in it, like the kenekalon jumbo braid from the ethnic hair isle. Total cost is about 3$
Edit: I'll also add that it holds very well, even without much hair spray. I feel like I have a hair cushion on my head lol. The first time I did it it lasted two days. This time what you're seeing is day 2 of the second time, and I just had to re-organize the front part a bit.
