All this talk of "judges" reminds me: what do y'all think of the new Taurus line? (Taurus Judge)
Has anyone on here owned (or shot) one?

Judge "Public Defender" - .410/.45

or the 28ga "Raging Judge"

On the one hand, I think they're ugly as heck, but on the other, a six-round "shotgun" in pistol format (that's legal to own and carry the same as a regular pistol, instead of SBS licensing etc) is actually pretty enticing...

I'm more a vintage-type, preferring S&W 28's,

1911A1's,

etc

But the idea behind the TJ is intriguing... especially for when I'm in Florida where my in-laws have passels of cotton-mouth snakes on their property...

Hi

Excuse the weird question, but I know Rattlesnake is a food group in Texas. Is Cotton-mouth a food group in Florida? If so, you night want to try the whole ten shot .22LR revolver with those baby shotgun rounds in it. Cotton-mouths tend to mean though, and being a water snake, they probably taste a little on the fishy side.

Just a (WEIRD) though.

To paraphrase Jeff Cooper, I've never understood the concept of a "snake gun". If you see the snake in time to draw a pistol and shoot it, why not just step around the snake, instead? If you don't see the snake...well, the gun will be useless.

Hi Atticus

I agree completely with you and Mr. Cooper, however I was questioning the use of a .410 shotgun for shooting long fat edible (somewhat) snakes. I think that a .410 would ruin too much meat, and I sure ain't gonna catch the damn things by hand. Well, not until I've had too much beer to stand up on my own...

Some people have dressed 'em up a bit,

And now S&W has bought into the ".410/45" gun, with their new "Governor"

Slap some good looking grips like these on there

and a Tyler-T, I might actually start liking the look... though I agree, the "stock" option of the Taurus Judge certainly is "fugly."

Besides, sharing ammo with a 1911A1 is a definite +plus+ ("with a capital P")
(still waiting to hear about their performance though) and does anyone on here have one? if so, have you done any customizing to it?

I'm not shooting the snakes to eat, but I wouldn't just shoot one cause I saw it...

Cotton-mouths aren't the kind of thing I want around the toddlers that play at my in-laws -

to make it a safer environment for the little ones who might not be fast enough....

DKC, that's a pretty l'il 1917 you got there!

Don't get me wrong...I'm no snake lover...but I've got this Karma kind of thing with snakes the same as I do with sharks. I believe that if I don't eat shark meat then maybe sharks won't eat Geoff meat...and, so far, so good.

Jackie (my significant other) is terrified of snakes and we live on a river, so there are plenty of snakes around here to terrify her. Several times a year she comes in the house screaming about a snake in the yard. While she cowers in the house, I take a shotgun out into the yard and shoot it into the air. Then I shoo the snake away. She's happier than a pig in poop...and so is the snake.

LOL, I guess that's one way to keep everyone happy... don't worry, I didn't take it personal. (I hope I didn't come across too strong? I'm not always best at expressing myself in English, having lived overseas two thirds of my life...) :p I just meant that though I normally leave snakes alone (I sometimes work with my brother who breeds snakes) :eeek: when it comes down to a kid vs a snake, I'll kill the snake. ;)

Same goes for predators of any kind... if they leave me alone, I leave them alone (Bears, Cougars, Snakes, Sharks, Croc's, 'Gators, Dogs, or people) but the second they threaten the lives of my loved ones,

DKC, does that S&W 1917 shoot .45ACP? Is that something you added, or is that how it came? I really like the idea of a revolver/auto combo set that shoot the same caliber.. I prefer 1911s, but my wife is better w/ revolvers (I actually like both) but if I was ever in a hurry I wouldn't have to worry about whether or not I grabbed the right ammo... that would be nice.

the 28ga "Raging Judge"
raging-judge-28-gauge.jpg
I believe that the Raging Judge has been withdrawn from production (or at least sale in the USA) as it is a Federally "prohibited weapon" since it is classed as a shotgun; as it fails to meet the barrel/overall length requirements it falls into the same category as a sawn-off shotgun, possession of which is a no-no . On the other hand, the Judge qualifies as a handgun as it is capable of firing .45 Long Colt, .45 ACP, .45 Auto Rim, and .410 shot shells. Since there is no cartridge that will interchange with the 28 gauge shot shell, the Raging Judge has been "recused" from US sales.

My bevy of Krag sporters. All in the vintage style. Bottom rifle is one of the NRA re-works for DCM sales. I think they sold for about $2.50 + shipping back in the 20's. I love these old rifles as much as I do my Mausers!

An sporterized Krag with 200 gr. softnose loads has got to be the ultimate snow hunting rifle. Load up the magazine with mittens on, strap on the XC skis and have at dem mooses!

See that middle rifle with the old Redfield receiver sight? I intend to take my next bull elk with that rifle! My fav load for it is a Hornady 220 grn RNSP in front of 44 grns of Reloader 19. Nice easy pressure on the old vets!
