Uh no. I want to have the whole thing Taxidermied for my summer house. Minimal skin damage is required. So I have to shoot him twice with the T-Rex. Maybe three times. [huh] :p

Judging by the size of it's brain and it's appetite, I believe trapping would be the best method, then euthanize. That way preserving the said trophy. :)

Only to study, not to consume. I prefer sirloin for my diet...

Besides, like I said I doubt your .577 would get through and cause enough internal damage for a killshot. Stempops ain't happening, considering that the braincase is quite literally the single strongest piece of a tyrannosaur skull... thick ribs'd make a heartshot dicey, and it'd be slow to bleed out. Best bet, poison-tipped darts... lots of 'em. Again, from an airborne "shooting platform"... believe me, you wouldn't want anything to do with the ground within several miles of a rex without at minimum 10,000 volts of 30'-high electrified fence between you.

Actually the skull is literally full of holes to nail through like a piece of tissue paper:

Dinosaurs such as Tyranosaurus Rex have much in common with birds when we look at their skulls. The bones have huge holes in them to make their skulls lighter and easier to manuever.
Having raised German Roller canaries for nearly all of my life, you come to appreciate just how fragile in one instance and strong in other instances their skulls truly are. Their skulls have give but not that much give.
I could likely nail one in the head at a strategic location from a bluff or such a high location from a safe distance. :D

Like I said, though, unless you get an "eye->optic-nerve->brain" shot, the odds are all you're gonna do with your soft-tissue damage is hack it off. Ever been up close and personal with a rex skull? The lady who runs my local rock shop helped dig one up, and managed to get a full cast of the skull for her shop... Yes, it's very birdlike, but that braincase is an extremely solid structure, believe me. I'm mildly confident a .600 Nitro Express would penetrate, but not much less...

Menwhile, while you climb your bluff (watch out behind you!:D), I think I'll see if Carberry and Twitch would be on for a side-trip to the local Marine base and helping me "borrow" a Harrier or three...lol

Geez, a Harrier?! I want to have something left to taxidermy man.
I don't need an eye shot(orbit). I'll take an infratemporal fenestra shot, Antorbital fenestra shot or a Maxillary fenestra shot. Heck I would even try the nares shot. :p

As long as the angle is right, its down and out. :D

Yeah, great Luau T-Rex. No thanks.
I prefer T-Rex Steaks, ribs, legs and we'll save the brains for Diamondback. I understand he likes that sort of thing. ;) :p

I was on another thread and I heard BBQ:essen:

Doubtful--I've studied tyrannosaur A&P, and you'd probably want a 20mm Lahti for that.

I'll take a 20mm lahti for dessert-two sugars please.

@Rumblefish: I'm talkin' anti-tank rifle, not espresso...:p

@Mr. Powers: good luck getting the beast to hold still for your "perfect shot"... I was thinking a good pass with 25mm DU, not going bombing or starting a BBQ early with napalm!

It doesn't have to hold still. I'll get him anyway. ;) :p A good scope on that rifle would make it easy. You know they do stop once it a while to sniff the air for the smell of a possible easy meal of an alreay stiffed out animal. All we need is a dead animal in an open clearing. They are like land sharks. I might be able to get three at once. ;)
You've gone from 200mm to 25mm DU. Geez, what's next an ICBM. :eusa_doh:

Come on, it's only 5 millimeters... and DU was the closest thing I could find to a "slug" in the Harrier's ammo loads. Maybe if I could get a "slug" round for the 20mms an A-4 packs... either way, I'm taking no chances being on the ground. At minimum, my rifle and I are gonna have to be tied down on the rear ramp of a Chinook or a CH-53... Geez, keep this stuff up and the thread's gonna get locked and purged for sure, compliments of "Mr. No Fun"...

Right. But you good folks seem to have missed the most crucial part of this big game expedition. Will all the gear fit in the time machine and who's driving? lol

Now, now. We are still on the topic of guns. However, I don't see any pictures of these weapons. So show us your guns. :D

I am just taking a couple boxes of these:

No problem.
A certain other individual is more interested in bringing an army through. :p
