Thanks everyone for kind comments. It is very comfortable to wear and looks better on than on my mannequin. It looks so simple and it was, until I had to follow the fiendishly strange way of using bias binding to face the neck and armholes. Bless those 1930s patterns....

Oh, and may I ask if the wardrobe has a rail more commonly seen today (across the width) or a metal one that pulls out? Odd question- just curious! I don’t think I could take it if it had shelves as well- lovely bedroom suites are all too much for me to handle….

Miss T, yes, the rail goes across the wardrobe rather than fore and aft and yes, it also has shelves! There is a hat shelf above the rail and also glass fronted shelves along the side. That is, they have a little pull down door with glass in it. Bit hard to explain. It is part of a suite that includes two wardrobes, dressing table and bedside cabinets. We believe it to be by London furniture maker Epstein, but since he didn't label his 1930s furniture it is hard to be sure. It certainly is high quality and in his style.
The smaller (mans) wardrobe had two rails originally but there was not quite enough room to hang two rows of suits without the bottom one creasing on the floor of the wardrobe so we took it out. Oh, and don't think that I get any space in either of them - all full of himselfs clothes!

I finished a sweater from a 1930's pattern that I actually purchased from Lauren's website here!:

I really hope she doesn't mind the stolen image (please let me know if so!), but I just wanted to show what it was intended to look like:

So I didn't have enough yarn in my stash to make the original version... and as it was a top-down knit, I realized how little yarn I had a bit too late! So the body was much shorter than originally called for in the pattern (about 6" shorter) and the ribbing was about 4" longer. Also all of the ribbing and crochetted edgings had to be done in a different color! This takes it out of the 30's completely and into maybe the new look category? but I do love it just the same.

I saw the back gaping a bit more between the buttons than I would have liked so I doubled the amount called for (from 5 to 10) and I think it looks really pretty It lies perfectly flat now!

One bad pic from the front. I do hope to take decent ones soon!

Start to finish it took me about a month and a half, but the bulk of the knitting didn't really take very long! Just the finishing and buttons and all of that, which I dragged my feet on a bit.

I owe you! I will try to take nicer pictures so you can really see!

Great work ToniJo. Also, Lauren, are you gonna post a pic of yourself with your new crocheted sweater from your blog? I think I might try making that one too. Also, I'm curious what size yarn and hook you used because like you, I have a very hard time getting the size right with these vintage patterns. Maybe that's why I prefer crocheting handbags over anything else.

OK. I made up my mind. I'm gonna crochet again after over a year, but only after I've finished reading my book cause I know I will never be able to finish the book once I pick up the hook.

I don't remember the size offhand, but I did use the hook that they called for in the instructions and the yarn was Lion Brand Fisherman's Yarn. I think I either got it at Michael's or Joann Fabrics.

I think I got a bit overly ambitious in the project I'm working on now and it's taking me longer than I thought. The last project went so fast I think I gauged my speed/ability better than it is in reality lol

In fact I liked it enough to order it. And it just came. My question to you is, did you shorten it
a lot? I measured the front piece and its 52"long. I'm 5'6" and it comes to my ankle bone.
If you shortened it, did you take it up above or below the kick pleat?

I'm 5'1". I took a .5 tuck above the waist and a .5 tuck about 1in above the pleats and used a 1in hem.

I am so loving looking at all the beautiful sewing projects! I am jealous! I put my machines away (closed my little business after my accountant said the numbers implied it was more of a hobby. lol) I started working with my photographer husband as his office help/photo editor. The only thing I have sewn lately was a tuba cover for my son's school's marching band. lol
