Well, now finished the print dress.

Have to say not completely happy with it.... not the sewing, it's just the small blue floral print just looks rather weedy on someone who's nearly six feet tall and slightly flamboyantly built. (She says tactfully-think Russ Meyer heroine and it's close!) Can anyone think of a way to oomph it up a bit?

This is gonna be my QM dinner gown :)

LD

Absolutely gorgeous LD. So flowy and elegant.

I love that fabric MaryDeluxe on that sundress and bolero. The whole thing looks awesome.

I know, aint it to die for (as Lauren has demonstrated )Actually, Im gonna make it from the picture. No pattern. Its a fairy simple dress. and if I Frankenstein parts from other dresses I have, I think I can pull it off.Wish me luck...LD
Good luck and we want to see your masterpiece when you finish.

This is a beyond-circle skirt with V that I made of vintage fabric in yellow gold:

I dont want to go the black dress route, too boring. Im thinking of a dark brown (warm toned) velvet...

Thoughts...

LD

Sounds nice, so long as the velvet won't get crushed on the trip down...

Gotta have a bracelet to go with that sleeve, too. Like in Palm Beach Story. Now just to find the millionaire to buy it for you...

If there is supposed to be a picture with this post, it isn't showing up :)

There wasn't, GoldLeaf. I'm ashamed to be seen in it ;)

No seriously, I was wondering if anyone had any cunning ideas for making it look something like, before I actually commit myself to photographing it.... just sort of general antidotes to wishy-washyness. HOw to "lift" an ensemble, if you like.

Thanks! It's actually made of a skirt I had bought from the Gap in high school and had been holding onto because I love the fabric. It finally got put to use!

That gives me such hope! You have no idea how many of those "I can't part with that fabric" garments I've got stashed away. Sometimes I even delude myself that I'll make a quilt from the fabric (not likely!).

I always look forward to seeing what you make--I think that paisley coat was my favorite (sigh!).

Thanks! I just made them out of a denim- I wanted something I could rough and tumble in and now worry about! Yup, and it's period, too ;)
I actually modified the pattern. I used this one from the Vintage Fashion Library. I made up a pair three or so years ago as it is on the cover but this time I made them at the natural waist and made them so they buttoned at the sides by adding a placket, then a waistband across the front and back pants.

Lady Day,

I'm seeing a charmeuse sort of thing. A warm, autumnal brown or a deep wine red. Maybe. I have very little taste.

I think the brown would look great LD. I wanted to make a dress in a color too -- since so much black vintage clothing seems to have survived it's nice to inject some color when we can.
