Lovely work, Lauren! :eusa_clap

Here is a collar dress I made based on a 1930s pattern, using contrast fabric for accent over-lap button front and collar style sleeve caps:

Okay, I'm not sure how I feel about this dress yet. I found a local shop that sells fabric/makes dresses/gives lessons. So, I thought I would try them out on the lessons and making me a dress. So here goes, I made the bolero jacket and a woman who works there made the dress. I'm not sure how happy I am about the dress but I must say I did an excellent job on the jacket lol

Here's my second attempt at sewing from a pattern. I moved on from the apron to doing something that required using a multi-size pattern and neck facing. My next project will maybe involve set in sleeves, and then I will try something with a zipper. This is just a simple thing I made as a house dress. The black is plain cotton and the leopard print is a cotton/lycra mix with just a tad of stretch. I loved the leopard example on the pattern that I just had to do it!

It turned out OK, though I'm not entirely happy with it. Something didn't work out with the neck facing. It was too short or something and didn't lay flat, even though I had top-stitched it following my mom's recommendation. I ended up just cutting it out next to the seam. Also, the 2 sides of the front of the neckline on either side of the slit weren't completely even. BOO!

Goody Job Kitty! :eusa_clap Th dress looks really cute on you! I like dresses that have waist ties like that. It accents your tiny waist.

Yeah thats happened to me on many a project as well. :rage: On most of the cheap paterns I get, they just dont take the time to make proper facing pieces for the pattern, so I end up creating some based on the top of the neckline. Especially on garments that dont have a collar (I have a strange hangup about no collar things [huh] its personal ). But this looks nice!

you do have to be careful of the cheaper patterns.I just ruined a dress because the instructions for cutting the fabric were wrong.I went ahead and recut it with what fabric I had left over, but there wasn't enough so the dress was much shorter than intended...too short..so now my lovely dress is a nightie.:(

LD and Olive, thank you for the tips about the cheaper patterns. I have noticed with both the patterns I've used so far that some instructions and diagrams were incorrect. At least I know now that it's normal and something to watch out for.

*snag*

Thanks Lady D. I've been looking for inspiration for my "special" outfit and now I've just seen it. Now to work out how it's done.... evil laughter.

Hoping to have a sewing blitz this morning, so hopefully pics later..... have got a blue and white print frock to run up before lunch and a pair of green tweed trousers after!

I know, aint it to die for (as Lauren has demonstrated ;) )!?

Actually, Im gonna make it from the picture. No pattern. Its a fairy simple dress. and if I Frankenstein parts from other dresses I have, I think I can pull it off.

Wish me luck...

The only thing with it is - how does one, erm, stop "the girls" from shifting around? any ideas?

(Do please let me know how you get on, cos I'm hoping to pick up some tips from you on this one....)
