Elaina plays WoW!

But based on her desktop, she's probably thinking of jumping ship to Lord of the Rings Online. ;)

Hmm, I used to play a bit of DoD, in the BFE (Battle for Europe) tourney.

Elaina is a giant nerd. I have Final Fantasy online and LotR online under the menu, but my husband never can seem to find the games unless it's on the desktop (and doesn't play my cool games anyway :) )

Uh, guys...the giant StormTrooper Hello Kitty should have tipped you off that I'm not all here.

I love you.

I spent two years of my life playing WoW and leading a large guild. Oh, the misery! Before that I was very much into text games (MUDs) -- the pinnacle of nerdiness. I recently retired from gaming and replaced my addiction with vintage clothes.

Nothing wrong with "nerdiness." It's an admirable trait to me, and can get a lot of people good jobs if they use it.

Annnd I just now changed my avatar because I realized this is a pretty damn good picture of James Dean. I may change it to that one of him leaning next to Sal Mineo though.

LOL, thanks! Well, let me just crown my nerdiness here by saying I just got into it an hour ago on WoW because I had some guy that killed my rogue 5 times about 3 weeks ago. I just spent the better part of an hour killing him, repeatedly, because he bothered me. I don't get mad, I get even.

I created my very first D&D character 23 years ago. I did the MUDs too, and was on the first wave of the online chat RPGs (back in the prodigy days) before it got all about Xrated-ness. I too, only VERY recently, quit the whole gaming thing when my son and I went to a con where I was dressed like a white mage (and if you have ANY clue, I'm sorry) then did a contest where I was Lulu and he was my King Cactuar (again, if that made sense, I'm sorry) and we spent a ton of time in the card game section (and yes, I still have my Alpha Magic cards) and I realized, hey it's his turn to be the gaming nerd.

And as you can see by my desktop, I have another love. I can, sadly, speak Quenya.

ETA: there is no jumping ship. I already play it. My son recently decided to clean my desktop, so it's missing about 70% of the junk on there.

Yes, this is actually a computer. Go ahead, try getting more vintage than this!

Here's the keyboard I'd use with it.

Sabine, I am without a doubt the biggest Do X fan outside Germany. I have books, an original pamphlet, a postal cover and four models.

:eek:fftopic: Fletch, I would love to fly with one of those wonderful planes.

Jake that is beautiful man! Is that your name on the box? I think it is.... ;) Did you design it? If not where did you get it. If you did, where did you get the gold design on the outside of the box?

Wow!

Mr H,

I check out a website called Retro Thing pretty regularly and I saw both the computer and the keyboard described there. Sadly, I don't own either. Here are the links showing you how to make both components.

Computer:
http://slipperyskip.com/page17.html

Keyboard:
http://steampunkworkshop.com/keyboard.shtml

I wish I could say they were mine, but they are more of a wishlist future project thing. The computer design actually seems to be the much easier component to build.

Thanks,
-Jake

Here's a vintage desktop for you....this is a close-up of the front of my late 1960's Univox hollowbody electric bass. I usually use a close-up shot of one of my basses as my desktop. I consider this lovely vintage instrument fair game for this thread. You can see part of the Univox sticker inside the upper F-hole.

And I don't play WoW or other online games. I just checked the online LOTR game, but I don't feel like spending $9.99 a month or $199 lifetime to play it. I have so many other creative ways to fritter away my money...like buying hats, and more electric basses!

I would love to convert an old nonworking radio into a computer box. Trouble is, it won't dissipate heat as well as aluminium, and I very much doubt many radios were made with it.

Anyways, he stole the words right out of my... fingers? lol Quite beautiful. Where do one's floppy disks (assuming anyone besides me uses them anymore) or DVDs go, though?
