Hi, I went to the thrift store this weekend looking for a vintage sport coat. I only found one that had a union label and it fit me pretty well. I knew from researching labels that it was the '62-'76 version. After further research I figure it's no older than 1971 because it's got a care label. Anyway, I was hoping that it was at least in the 1960's but I really like the color and pattern so I think I'm gonna hang on to it. What do you guys think? Would you be caught dead in it?

Oh, one more thing, I purchased a black fedora through ebay. I suppose the black hat with this mostly brown coat wouldn't work very well? I would some day like to add a gray hat to my collection for versatility, but would that even work, or would I need a brown hat? I've never been very good with matching clothes.

Personally, I think it looks great. Now, on the hat issue... I don't think black would be your best option.

Personally I don't like to get these because they look very odd without the slacks

1950s Cream with black fleck

There was a style in the late 40s early 50s that had a vent like this. It was typically east coast, ivy league, and done in this loos sack suit style, often with vest and pants. It threw me a bit when I came across one. Everything said late 40s like this suit jacket, but it had a vent more like an early 60s. I happened to notice a post by a certain former FLer who shall not be named, who mentioned. I went and looked and sure enough, the jacket was from a Princeton tailor that specialized on students.

The blue suit jacket I posted on page 93 is like the one you mentioned, late '40s specs with a small vent.

1935? It looks like it's from 1955, I guess this one of those rare exceptions in terms of jacket specs.

It's a simple jacket with a slight angled chest pocket, very heavy thick ribbed tweed with slight specks all throughout.

It has shape unlike the 50s boxy cuts

I'd expect a 1950s jacket with two buttons to have a significantly lower button stance, wouldn't you?

It is the ideal jacket for spring - except that we aren't having a spring this year. It's still snowing here in south London.
