Quite the color on this (early?) 1960s linen sportcoat

Just picked up this sport jacket. It lacks a union tag, but my guess from the half liner, lack of vent, lapel shape and big shoulders is that it's from the late '40s-early '50s period.

Nice. You rarely see four patch pockets. There is a downtown NYC tailor that had a four pocket sportcoat in his window last year. It looked great.

Nice! 4 patch pockets is one of my favourite features.

The button config and placement (and type) would make me think early 1950s. Maybe as far north as 1954-'55.

Thanks for the info! Does shoulder size help date vintage jackets at all? Because the jacket itself fits me perfectly, but I noticed the shoulders are about an inch wider than the rest of my vintage jackets. Do the bigger shoulders possibly emphasize the "Bold Look"?

I'm pretty sure this one's an orphaned suit jacket. Great heavy fabric on it. August 1952.

Orphaned suit jacket but I think the dark blue rather easy to combine. It is really short. Glad we discussed it before so we don't have to start all over again ;)

That's a killer suit jacket, Florian. The rounded peaks of those lapels seem like they'd look pretty good with a club collar shirt.

Thought I'd share a few of my favorites:

Most likely an orphan, bold look period I believe. Ventless, 1940's union label:

My favorite jacket. Wartime or pre-war? High V, ventless, smooth wool, squared-off bottom. 1940's union label (remnant):

Mid to late 50's, not sure if sportcoat or orphan. 1949 union label, ventless and no pocket flaps:

Found this 1920's/1930's linen sport jacket at the jazz age lawn party. I finally own a belted back jacket! :) Needs to be cleaned, pressed and have some repairs made, but other than that it's in excellent shape.

Great jacket. Perfect fit too. Now that the summer is finally starting over again I am craving for a linen suit or at least a sports jacket too.

Though I don't normally go for jackets made in the latter part of the 1960's, I couldn't pass up on this one's mod styling. I know there was nostalgia for the '30s mens suits/jackets in the late '60s, but this jacket appears to be referencing the late 1910's early 1920's style. It's similar to the jacket seen in this photo, 2nd guy from the left. http://www.shorpy.com/node/10367?size=_original

The vent is interesting, it makes it look as if there's no vent at all.
