Jeep, I'm glad to hear that things are progressing. You might look into the threads concerning blade/razor angle over at B&B it really makes a difference.

I am eargerly doing my "homework" at B&B :)

Today:

Merkur HD
Gillette "swede" blade
Palmolive palm oil shaving soap
Wilkinson brush
3 passes; 2 WTG, 1 ATG - cleanup XTG
Aloe vera gel
No blood on the two WTG (except a little nick at my upper lip) and much less blood from the ATG pass then usual
Still not completely BBS - but still the closest shave I have ever had :D

Regards.

Just A thought

Jakob, because I may be out of date on the nomenclature I will do this long hand.

My face is sensitive and responds poorly to being shave too close. It also is not fond of being shaved against the grain. For myself shaving too close can result in bumps..yes the horrendous bumps, ingrown hairs, blech. These lead to blood as they get shaved off. My solution which you may try is a slightly different pattern. Note most necks respond differently than the face and chin...well mine does...:) In fact barbers divide the face into different zones...

First pass whole face with the grain.
neck with the grain.
Second pass cheeks and chin across the grain in one direction (in my case ears to nose)
upper lip with the grain
lower lip and transition to chin with the grain
lower chin and jawline across the grain chin to ear.
lower neck with the grain
Third pass cheeks across the grain in the other direction (nose to ears)
upper lip with the grain
lower lip and chin with the grain
neck with the grain.

This is my "standard three passes" which of course varies dependent on my beards cooperation. Below is a old pic from a barbers book which happens to show one variation of zoning.

Thank you Belegnole. I'll have to experiment with that.

....interesting to use the term "experiment" when it comes to dragging a sharp blade across your face :eusa_doh: :)

I kind member over at B&B is sending me som unsceted soap to try out.

I have forund an organic unscented shaving soap at a danish web-store at a reasonable price, if it works for me it will be my go-to soap.

As to aftershave/balm, I am still looking - 98% aloe vera gel does the job so far.

Started wet shaving about a month ago, and I'm getting to the point where the styptic pencil is the rare exception rather than the bloody rule.

I found that corking those Personna's really made a difference...or is it all in my mind, and I'm more confident with them? lol

I'm hoping for a Tweezerman Badger brush, some Conk's Bay Rum soap and some aftershave that the bride is more thrilled by for Christmas. I'll admit that if she gets me to switch I'll miss the burn I get from that Pinaud firewater.

Anybody here use a scuttle?

I thought you straight edge shavers would appreciate this from today's New York Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/11/fashion/11skin.html?_r=1&hp

I tried the old school shaving, and it didn't improve my skin. I have sensitive skin, so I'm still stuck with: Gilette disposable double blades, Barbasol, Nieva after shave, and Bumper Stopper 2. I tried "Badger and Blade" and another site I'm forgetting now, but to no avail. If one of you has the miracle cure for my nicked and burned skin, let me know. For now, enjoy the literature.
