VERY nice, a great score. It may be older than you think because that style of head was getting fazed out in the 20s by Gillette.

Thanks.
That is quite possible Belegnole, I estimated the age based on a similar SWING razor I found in a mail order catalogue from 1945. However, my guess is that Swedish razor manufacturers, while being cut off from imports during WW2, put those older heads back in production just to offer people something. [huh]

Here's a little something I whipped up on the old lathe.
Afzelia Burl, the burl for the brush and razor came from 2 different sources.

Ah, that info I didn't have thanks. I did find pictures of the same or close to it but with no comments of date by a seller. Experience has taught me not to take sellers estimations as fact, due diligence is needed.

Bele, I will keep an eye out for an I2 for you, watch for G3s for me! And Bob's work is even better in person. I've got one of his handles on a Gillette Travel head and it is sweet.

Lazy Day

Well I have my daughter this weekend and we have started it off in superb fashion. We got up late, watched cartoons, ate waffles and have played games. Needless to say shaving wasn't thought about until, well, now....lol

hope you've all had a good day as well!

Today: Way too hungover and lazy to shave.

Yesterday:

Merkur Classic
Merkur Platinium blade
Palmolive palm-oil soap
Three passes

Thanks to the excellent advices from the fine gentlemen in here I am experiencing almost zero razorburn now :)

I have found something interesting:

A vintage Braun razor-blade sharpener. I quess it is more interesting than practical nowadays. But the price is nice. I think I will buy it, mostly for the razor coming with it. Does anyone know which brand/model the razor is?

I have also fould this (not available in english unfortunally): http://blindesarbejde.clickasite.dk/?/Hele sortiment/Barberkost/&showitem=278 and http://blindesarbejde.clickasite.dk/?/Hele sortiment/Barberkost/&showitem=277 - these brushes are made by "Blindes Arbejde" ("Work of the Blind"), they are handmade and the brushes are pure badger. It is tradition in Denmark for blind people to be employed as brusmakers and other simular "small-craftsmen". It used to be more or less forced labour with minimal wages, that has, offcourse, all changed today. The brushes they make are done entirely by hand and the quality is very high.

Regards.

Well the razor looks to be a Gillette "Old Style" which used a different blade than we do today. Many of that style had a hollow handle which may be cracked where it attaches to the head. The body looks like it may be one of the silver plated models but it is hard to tell from the picture. As far as dating it I would say from the 20's. With a chance to look closer you may find stampings which indicate much more. If you want to collect gear then I would say go for it if you feel that the price is right. IF you are looking for something to shave with I would probably pass....

edit: well if someone says they can get a blade into it I would say buy it.

Jakob, I have a Gillette like that and it is still a good shaver, just a little more aggressive than some. If you are used to a Merkur, give it a try. Great info on the brushes, thanks!

I think I will go for it. Even if I may not find any use for it, collecting vintage safety razors sounds appealing. I see quite a lot of them at freamarkets here in Denmark, I can at least recall a couple of NOS exaples that I now regret I didn't buy.

I have just joined Badger & Blade btw - quite an interesting forum, thanks for the heads-up.

I have been shawing with a Merkur 15C so far, but from the info gathered on B&B I can already see that I need to get my hands on a closed comb safety razor - it seems that the natural choice is a Merkur HD 34C.

I also wanted to take a second to thank all the contributors to this thread.
I started this thread some ago, not with any idea of longevity, just for a few devout old-time shavers to compare notes and list their daily selections.
But, take a peek at our number of posts and number of views... I have to say, It's pretty awesome!

So, thanks again for sharing your shaves, comments, advice, etc.. I think we have converted a few people and maybe we have some lurkers on the fence too...

Well done gents!:eusa_clap
