If you haven't been on the Schott website in a few years, you should check it out. They're really making a lot of different new jackets. Lots of horsehide too, if you're into that.

I definitely want to get a 618 in horsehide soon. And another one I've got my eye on is the P266 Lambskin for warmer weather. The weather is finally cooling down. Will be leather jacket weather real soon. So the lambskin will probably have to wait 'til next spring. But I'm really looking forward to getting a 618HH.

A while back, their prices were giving me sticker shock. But these days, with inflation and all, prices of everything have pretty much exploded. It's got so bad that Schott prices don't even look that bad to me anymore, hee hee.

I notice that some of their jackets even have American horsehide now. Interesting! I wonder how American horsehide will compare to their European horsehide? By the way, anyone know where Schott gets their European horsehide? It's probably from Italy, maybe France. Maybe French horses, hides processed and tanned in Italy?

The P266 is also one I've been looking at, but it is not a lightweight jacket by any stretch. It is oiled lambskin and quite substantial/heavy; I'd say the jacket weighs over 4lbs easily. It is a very nice piece that I've tried on, just has zip sleeves :( and is missing a front chest pocket which I prefer to have for my keys, sunglasses, etc.

4 lbs? Holy ****! And I thought it was a thin lightweight spring jacket, ha ha. Looks real good though. So maybe I'll have to get it for fall then.

If you live anywhere near one of their stores definitely go and try one on, they look amazing. I've been eying that one and a few others like the 555, which is black with dark olive undertones. and is able to handle bad weather.

I am hoping to see them release something along these lines:

- Enfield/Highwayman/Single rider/TFL FN-LJ-HS001/Y2 HVR-42 pattern
- cotton lining
- button closure sleeves (or straight, not a big deal either way)
- action back
- single or maybe two piece back
- just past waist length, like maybe 25/26 inches
- front slash pockets (no zipper), one chest front pocket (with a zipper) and an internal pocket (no snap)
- in a soft horsehide, like Pinnacle that is almost broken in from the getgo, but still has a nice horsehide patina.

I know the Schott lineup fairly well at this point but I haven't seen something that is close to those specs. My Delivery and 562 are amazing pieces, and would be sufficient if I don't add more to my collection, but I think they could use a jacket in that style to round things out.

The P266 is in the ballpark which is why I've been considering it, but I already have a lamb (the 246) and don't have a horsehide in my stable. That said, the 266 is unlike any lamb I've ever seen, it is so thick and heavy.

Their 188 and new 642 are very comparable to Enfeild and Model B.

I hope they copy some of the Aero pieces just to avoid duties

LOL that is true, though the 642 is a stand up collar and the 188 is cow with zipper sleeves.

Jut reviewed the 90 or so Schott jackets and the 576 is fairly close as well, though made in cowhide.

Looks like I’m between sizes, and both still have too long body lengths, main reason I’ve never owned one.
It might still be worth trying on a piece that is of interest, because I now have 4 of their jackets, tried on probably 5-6 others, and while I definitively fit in their "large" size, amongst different patterns they don't always fit the same.

For instance, I have a 246AE and a 546 in size large - both are "Delivery" jackets according to their descriptions, have basically the same pattern, but the 246 is a more snug fit across the chest and torso. The 246 only allows for a tshirt underneath, while the 546 will comfortably fit a sweater as well as a tshirt and button-down. However, both fit quite well.

I've found that some patterns sit well on my shoulders and "float" on me, even if they are classified as a "midweight" by Schott, and actually feel lighter than another pattern in the same size that actually weighs the same or less.

I'm at the point where I review their patterns to find one I like, look over the specs to see if they work for me, then head down to the store to try it on. Twice I ended up buying a different jacket than the one I had initially decided on because the other pattern fit me better. But that might be easier for me to say as the store is not far from me.

Thanks but the body lengths are around 2.5-3” longer than my ideal.

Schott has 25.5” and over 26” boc lengths when mine are usually in the 22-23” range, I think the longest boc length I currently have for a jacket is still under 24”.
My Aero Hwyman was about 24 or 25" in length if I remember, and I felt it was too short because it would get impacted by my belt.

I had to sent it back to Scotland for repairs as my lining got shredded around the waist and had them replace it and put a corduroy strip over the bottom few inches of the jacket to protect it. A longer jacket might be susceptible to such damage, but I think its less likely.

I also find a longer jacket is warmer and less likely to ride up into your chin when zipped all the way up if you sit down, but without knowing your height for comparison, the length you mention might be more suitable for you.

Indeed, I think the main difference is how we wear them, I wear mine around 90% of the time open, live in mild climate year round and I never wear belts.

I’ve had longer jackets before and I don’t like the excess material getting in the way of my hands going in my pant pockets, or how it crumples when driving, not to mention uncomfortable to ride in.

And just aesthetically I prefer the look of a short jacket vs a long one, so nowadays anything past my pant pockets is a no-go for me.

I only kept this one because it’s now used exclusively by my gf.

That makes sense, especially if not wearing a belt.

The last winter here was brutal which was part of the reason I grabbed a wool-lined 562, as an alternative to my painfully dull but quite warm Uniqlo downcoat during the colder months.

On paper it is longer than my Delivery jackets, but it actually seems shorter, maybe due to its consistent length all around, while the Delivery patterns have longer fronts/higher backs.

This thread is a good example how there is no such thing as a "perfect" jacket, just too many situations and tastes for any one jacket to work all the time.

They probably use American horsehide because the criminals in charge have been rounding up wild mustangs

You're describing the 689H.

Problems: wind flap, zip sleeves, snap on inside pocket, and is a heavyweight HH. Would prefer a much lighter one, like a Pinnacle.

It's not heavyweight by TFL standards and it drapes very naturally once broken in just a bit.

But my answer was based mostly on patterning itself.
