Rough and Tumble

This is probably a newbie question, but I'll pose it anyway.

In your opinions, do you have a hat that encompasses the rough & tumble aspects for travel? Beyond Indy's beloved brown version of a fedora, are there other hats that you would take with you into war and then to the nearest bar afterwards?

Let me start with an example. I was in a market in Baku wearing a Monticristi. The hat got knocked off by accident and was soon trampled in a market crowd. Obviously, the hat did not fair well. Much to my great dismay. Fortunately, my cigars were just fine.

However, that incident left me with a sour taste for using my nicer hats for travels. So, my question is, if you were to take one hat to various parts of the world, which hat would it be? Drover? Fedora? Trilby? etc?

I wish it was. I was actually there in December (right after 9/11) to visit some friends. I worked for Hyatt Hotels at the time and we had two there. Unfortunately, Americans were still not viewed highly during my visit there. However, on a positive side, the dollar was very strong and the food there was great.

Funny enough, I had the best lasagna of my life there. Go figure.

Something like this would be my choice:

"Oh, I'm exhausted. I've been on this street a thousand times. It's never looked so strange. The faces...so cold. In the distance a child is crying...fatherless...a ba***rd child, perhaps. My back aches, my heart aches, but my feet...my feet are resilient! Thank God I took off my heels and put on my Himalayan walking shoes!"
