Red Wines?

As a newby to the forum....and somewhat a learning novice concerning better wines..may I be so bold to suggest a couple of my recent favorites. In the past I have enjoyed some of the imported French pale Rose's...and Cabernets. Also, years ago,room temperature Chianti with raviola was a favorite. A year or so ago I discovered Black Opal 51% Cabernet/49% Merlot from Austrailia that was quite surprisingly tasty. More recently...Cal' Del Solo Big House Red wine from central California. May I inquire about some of your favorites for future reference...if anyone is interested?

Back in the days when I used to imbibe, I loved nothing better than to have a bottle of Carpathian Pinot Noir with dinner. Not that I'd have the entire bottle to myself of course!

The best red wine I've ever had was recently in Rome, a red house wine that was so perfect. Maybe it was the atmosphere that made it taste so exquisite, I was dining in front of the Pantheon and eating an incredible meal. There was really no need to buy an expensive bottle of wine, every house red I had while there was perfect.
Other than that my favorite red is Ruffino Chiante. The ducale is exquisite, but they do have a less expensive bottle that is really quite good.
For a good cheap wine, Turning Leaf makes a Cabernet that is really good. I'm also a fan of Kendall Jackson Cabernet.

Has anyone tried the Spanish reds? I like Tempranillo. It's actually a purple color, and it has a nicely rounded flavor with a smooth finish.

It may be pedestrian but I like Valpolicella, I usually get the Bolla.

My old processor liked the White Merlots, very fruity.

I don't think that's a hard and fast "don't do".

Valpolicella is supposed to be drunk at somewhere in the mid-50's for example. I just throw it in the fridge for a bit before opening.

I stayed with a family in Italy in Matera in Basilicata and they had their own family produced wine, as many people there do. It was a red wine; a good solid table wine. They drank it in tumblers and over ice and it was delicious,

Drink it anyway you wish. Just enjoy it!

I enjoy riojas myself. Marques de Caceres and Ramirez de la Piscina come to mind. Marques de C is spicy and semi-dry, Ramirez smoother.

2 of my favorite reds are domestic and reasonable. Rex Goliath cabernet and merlot are from California. Look for the sky blue label with the big chicken on it.
