Very interesting - I didn't realise that Qantas (Quite A Nice Trip - All Survived!) was as old as that. They have generally had very nice uniforms too, not nearly as trashy as some of the other airlines going by those photos. I really like the latest uniform trenchcoats and hats.

Qantas certainly has a few issues with safety. I'm not entirely sure I'd be flying on it anytime soon. But I believe it also holds the record of being the oldest passenger airline in the world.

Really? According to JADEC they are rated at 13 out of 60. To put it in perspective United Airlines comes in at 31. I'm less likely to fly with Qantas because of their appalling industrial relations record, but that's another story.

Love the early uniforms though...

Last time I checked, it stood for Queensland And Northern Territory Air Service, or words to that effect.

Well yes, of course the joke one I posted isn't what it really stands for - it's just what lots of people joke that it stands for. Was it new to you?

They have had a run of extraordinarily bad luck in the last couple of years, it seems like, but I hope that's not a sign of worse to come.

Just finished reading QF32 by Richard de Crespigny. Interesting insight into the safety culture of QANTAS.

As a frequent traveller I do not hesitate to fly with them.

"Quite A Nice Trip - All Survived" I have not heard that one

"TWA" = Try Walking Across

"BA" = Bloody Awful

In the 50s/60s, due to spotty safety record, there was a popular irreverent jingle which went: "Take a chance, fly Air France!"

Probably the all time best safety record. No planes lost for instance = Rainman said it.
