New Member to the Hat Forum

Thanks for all the welcomes. Any heads up on my size being available welcome. So far I have only found 1 vintage dress hat in my size, and I bought it. On eBay but from a lounger. All roads to decent quality hats seem to lead to Rome.

I didn’t think to search for this thread as every forum has one but I stumbled on it. My name is Robert from Chicago, and I have been diagnosed with mad hat disease. The only cure is managing a huddle of good looking hats to bring out my style and presence.

My first upscale hat was an Optimo straw I picked up over 7 years ago which is back at the factory for some TLC and my second upscale hat was an Optimo Metropolitan which I ordered in August and picked up in October. Now I just won an auction for a Biltmore Royal. I have also contacted Hufvud for a Lord’s hat and left a WTB thread in the classifieds. Looking forward to learning more about hats, including seeing and reading everyone else’s journeys. Cheers.

I’ll be your Huckleberry,

Hi, my name is Lunger. I was given that nickname after Val Kilmer’s portrayal of Doc Holliday in Tombstone because I have extremely bad asthma that makes Darth Vader look like he’s breathing just fine!

The reason why I joined this forum is because I was fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with my great-grandfather who, at his youngest, was 85. “Gramps” as I called him was a Boulevardier” or a sharp dressed gentleman. I particularly remember one outfit that was capped off with a red silk pocket square in his cashmere overcoat, grey suede gloves, his walking stick and the most beautiful grey homburg! To me he will always be the essence of class! (To Gramps a “sport shirt” was a short-sleeved dress shirt with no tie!)

Those experiences are what shaped my view of what a man, gentleman, should look like! If it were up to me, I would go back to the days where you wore a suit for dinner every night! Those days might be long gone, to say the least, but I still love classic hats like my Gramps used to wear! Attached is a picture of me with my wife and daughter at Disney last summer in my Panama Optimo.

I look forward to the guidance that you gentlemen can give!
