Thurston Bros has a buffalo Thedi with buttons that I've been eyeing. The fit would be darn near perfect. Buffalo leather has never been my bag. Always seems flimsy and costly for little reason. However by looking id never guess it was buffalo. Maybe they're different in Italy. Id kill for a 10% off code lol. I can dream
It is Water Buffalo.
You are probably thinking of American Bison. A completely different critter.

Buffalo leather flimsy? Nah, that’s not true. It’s one of the toughest leathers out there—plenty of motorcycle jackets are made from it because of how durable it is. If Thedi’s using it, you can bet it’s high quality.

And 10% off a custom maker? Come on. This isn’t some off-the-rack mall brand doing promo codes lol—it’s a small-batch artisan making jackets to order. If you want a discount, better off waiting for a used one to pop up.

Edit: The comment after this wasn’t there when I posted, where you realize it’s American bison you were thinking of.

You wouldn’t regret it. I was a bit skeptical at first too—after all, a water buffalo leather jacket isn’t exactly mainstream. It’s sometimes used for high-end furniture, like couches, but as a jacket?

Still, I decided to go for it, drawn by the uniqueness, and I haven’t regretted it one bit. Thedi’s water buffalo leather in tan/cognac has a great feel - beautifully selected hides, perfectly stitched together. The leather is soft (not lambskin soft, which wouldn’t be desirable), yet it has a nice grip and molds to the body exceptionally well. It doesn’t feel restrictive, nor does it give you that armored sensation like CXL FQHH.

Since it’s vegetable-tanned, it’s naturally not as water-resistant as something like CXL FQHH. My jacket has already been through a few unexpected downpours. Initially, the light-colored leather showed some discoloration (rain drops), but it dried up nicely. The natural oils and waxes help "push the moisture out" and provide excellent protection. Every now and then, I give it a quick brush, and that’s all it takes.

Can you give us your thoughts on the leather? Break-in, character, smell ECT? Eyeing one nearly identical. If it drapes that well new I'm only guessing it amazing now
The smell is wonderful. There is nothing to break in. I also ordered the Memphis with the same back panel as this Evander. That jacket should be ready soon. Evander doesn't need any type of side or center pleat for maneuverability. It has the maneuverability of a tee shirt already. That is why I ordered the Memphis with the smooth Evander back panel. That way I will not feel the extra material of the center seam on my back. My reasoning is why add something that doesn't add anything to the jackets mobility. So I deleted the pleated lumpy back feature. This jacket is amazing. It doesn't pull or lift up no matter how I move my limbs. I Will post pictures of the Memphis/Evander combo when it arrives to verify if the straight zip Memphis (with the deleted action back)has the mobility of the cross zip Evander.

Have received my order as well this afternoon, the MTC 127996 in Cognac Buffallo. Will try to snap some prettier pictures of it over this weekend.

The leather is great and as many people pointed out before, it does feel broken in. It already has some creases even though I've only worn it in front of a mirror for less than 15 mins. The main double Universal zipper seems huge (and incredibly sturdy) compared to what I have on my other Aero jackets.

The lining was Thedi's choice - I asked for a solid color, either black, navy or dark red - but I think this one works fine too, the pattern is simple enough. I would like it if there was a catalog / preview of linings that he has in stock to make it easier to choose.

As I said some posts ago, my initial order was placed in October '24, and I wanted a black shawl collar / cossack. I changed my mind early January and switched to this order after seeing a bunch of other jackets - it's definitely more my style than the cossack would've been (this one is basically a Highwayman, right?).

One thing I did not think through properly - due to the long waiting times, I got slightly bigger than my initial measurements (damn incline bench press) so now the jacket feels like a pretty slim fit - T-shirt only / some thin long sleeved shirt at the most - which then doesn't *quite* pair with the shearling collar.

How was communication with thedi? Did he give you a heads up on shipping?

He usually replied in around 1-2 days to my questions, but I did try to keep them to a minimum.

For the shipping, I actually checked with him last week if he had any news (our latest communication had been in early January) and he said the jacket would be ready this week.

17.03 I reconfirmed my shipping details, 20.03 the jacket was picked up and on 21.03 it was delivered.
