New to me but not to the lounge. A package arrived yesterday from one of my favourite enablers Brent @deadlyhandsome. In his generosity he included more hats than were part of the exchange, so a huge thanks goes out to him for his kindness.
Adam homburg in dark green (!). Size 57 with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Nice shape and proportions to this one and the green is so dark that I have to (grudgingly:)) admit I like it. One cannot have enough homburgs.

I like Homburgs, but I've never worn one in my life so I don't know whether or not I'd still like them once one was placed upon my head. But that COLOR! Wow! Just beautiful!

Finally the hat that started this exchange.

Stetson Custom V heather felt fedora in brown. Size 56 with the overwelt brim at 6,5cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. I love the colours on this one: felt and ribbon make for a very attractive combination.

Brent @deadlyhandsome didn't stop there and also added this one. Classic looking hat in a colour scheme I find hard to resist. Thanks, Brent.

Edgewood fedora in grey with a black ribbon and light grey/silver brim binding. Size 56 with the brim at 7cm and the crown at 11cm at the center dent. Don't know anything about Edgewood, but it's a great hat. I have a feeling for some reason that it might have been made by Lee.

Certainly some Lee similarities there. Fine looking hat, Stefan

And then today while I was out liquidating some estate stuff I find: THREE Hats.
1667242802472.png

{The little hat on the far right is a wool size 6 5/8 1940's "Lucky Boy" by Bee Hats from their "Bee Junior" line...I have had it on display for a while}

Left: is a 1950's Champ...VERY nice felt....summer weight with no lining (has covered tip protector)....size 7 1/4 so.................trade bait. Great shape......
1667242960597.png

Middle: is a light brown (much lighter than in the photo) Borsalino (Alessandra OR Clone) from about 1960.......very nice felt of course, but again a 7 1/4 so......more trade bait. GREAT shape save the tip logo has worn.
1667243036760.png

Right: A hat I have been looking for for some time an early 1940's Royal Stetson Deluxe (as opposed to a Royal Deluxe Stetson) AND It is a Vita-Felt!!!!!
1667243133362.png

This one has great proportions at a little over 5 1/2" crown and a 2 3/4" brim that has an awesome triple stitched over-welt.

Now the sweat and liner are in great shape (looks hardly worn) as is the felt generally, but (as I have seen from time to time) was ill stored and the underside is a bit of a moonscape of tracking, however the top of the brim is clean....with the crown likewise (save three clean thru-holes, NO tracking).:rolleyes:
1667243189112.png 1667243227253.png Now here is the good part.......it IS MY SIZE a 7 1/2!!!!:)

So.....I am going to do a LITTLE pouncing, fill the holes, and have my very own wearable Royal Stetson Deluxe Vita-Felt!!!!!;)

Oh, yes....Happy Halloween!!!!!

I believe this is the first new addition to my hat family this calendar year. I haven't been looking actively but was pointed in the direction of this auction by an overseas hat friend. It's an interesting one... perhaps quite old and doesn't fit the form of the traditional boater. The crown is taller and the sewn plait construction yields a supple/flexible hat. The pictures tell all that I know, which is not much, thought the size is U.S. measurement. Enjoy.

Nice and very interesting find Alan. The plate cushion liner suggests a tad around 1900, I'd say.

Yes....it is tough finding these old hats that fit us "melon heads" even in "less than perfect" condition. I do seem to almost trip over some really nice ones that are allas, almost never in my size.

I dont often buy hats unless they fit (tradeing/selling is such a pain) but this last deal (as was the one before) was a "three for".....so I end up with extra non fitting headwear .....I am in no way up to the wheeling and dealing some here seem to be.

Occasionally a "hat needs saving" when especially nice, cheap/or a rare example, in which case I often keep them for display (occasionally I will give them away, as others here do...we have some really generous folks here). But I can and do work out trades now and again in which I let my "handsome wall flowers" go, as several here can attest. Stephan will be getting one of those soon...;)

I stumbled onto this gorgeous Willoughby fedora in an online auction and took a chance. I didn’t know anything about that hat maker but I found some posts here in the lounge that were encouraging. No size was given but I knew from the measurements in the listing that it wouldn’t fit me. However my wife has been wanting a nice fedora and I was hoping it would work.

Interestingly the hat was listed as a Cavanagh because that’s the box that came with it. The pictures of the hat were very few and very terrible. It was a gamble. And it paid off!

I’ve been working with the crown and brim which were shaped like somebody unsuccessfully tried to make a homburg out of it, but here’s where I’m at with it so far. It’s a size 7 (found a label inside the sweat band) and fits my wife perfectly. She loves it. The felt might just be the best-feeling of anything I have.

I’ve wanted to try a Stratton custom hat for a long time. The company is best known for their uniform hats and as part of the company that makes the Winchester hat bodies. I watched this hat for months and finally worked out a deal with the seller.

30X pure beaver fur felt on a generously proportioned black homburg. The felt is fine, but not as nice as either better vintage homburgs nor the felt that Gannon and others can work the same raw materials into. It’s substantial and solid, but it’s not overly thick or at all harsh. It’s about what I was expecting. The fit is true to size and it will be my primary black homburg until I can find a vintage one that fits as well with better felt.
