A couple of my best vintage hats from the last year or two have something in common: an assist from @Randall Renshaw Thank you, Randall!

Nice old Stetson St. Regis in a hard to find 7 3/4 and it’s an extra long oval!

That is one fine Homburg. Congratulations Brent. Good job on the assist Randall.

Very nice Brent! Kudos to Randall for the assist. The price / lot tag caught my eye. Same as in a Resistol "Ten" I have. Maybe they used the same tag supplier at this point in time? Or it was a merchant added tag?

Since this is a new 6X 100% fur felt, here are 2 pics I nabbed of the web. I Currently have an older gray Resistol which is pretty well worn. The new purchase is a nice silverbelly which is not too beige or too gray. Fits true and I'm am super happy to have found it since the nearest western store has made an obvious move to carry lesser known/proven brands that are wool felt. It is a city limits model. The black sweat and liner is kind of neat

I put this brand new hat in the Resistol roundup thread. I'm including it here because, although westerns have gone through many changes over the decades, like felt quality, proportion, and obvious fads which left cowboy hats in a bad light, they are still very functional and timeless, IMO.

Here's an interesting one. Bought this as a Morreton in blue. When it arrived it turned out to be full of surprises. First of all it turned out to be a camber style hat, somewhere in between a homburg and a fedora. These were quite popular it seems in France. Then it turned out to be not a size 56, but a size 55. The sweatband on it was almost rock hard, so stretch to be expected there. Another surprise was that it wasn't a Morreton at all, but a Mossant. Both the swetband, the label and the original crown patch underneath the liner all say Mossant. The Morrteon liner was sewn in later it seems. Disappointing? Not at all: Mossant is a better maker than Morreton and the felt is great. The colour is even better: called Bleu Oxford by Mossant. It so happened I still had a Mossant lying around on which the felt was beyond saving, so it donated the sweatband to this one. The pics show the original one though. Long story, but here's the hat (part I)

I think that color is extraordinary!

I just took a look at mine, and I confirm that assessment. I also just noticed that the brim edge is trimmed irregularly at the back.
"Handcrafted" in hatmaking is not a good thing, IMHO. High quality machinery produces high-quality hats.
Hello, I just wanted to respond to this post because it unfairly impugns John's craftsmanship. The hat in the photos is not made by John Penman, He numbers all of his hats and that number on the sweatband does not go with a grey hat. So, what most likely happened is someone used the sweatband and sewed it into some other hat. AKA you got scammed.
