Like many on this forum, I crave a black OR or reasonable clone. Goaded by a former lounger (code name "Tawny"), I scored this on the Bay last Friday. I don't think I would have bid on it if not for the goading. It looked a little stiff and kinda iffy. However, I succumbed to the peer pressure and threw out a cheap bid and won it.
It hit the door yesterday, and I was still sort of, "Meh," but now that I have given it a good brushing and steaming, I'm pretty darn happy. Lordy it was dusty, which is why it looked stiff in the pics With a 2 1/2" brim (5 1/2" crown), it's really a Strat clone, but still - very happy.
On with the pictures!
Cleaned up, open crown.
After a good steaming and shaping,
Hat viscera,
It has a dark, reddish brown sweatband, still in good shape. No interior tags or union labels. It could be anywhere from 50s to 70s (but I'd put my money on 60s-70s).
