Thanks for the likes guys. Yes, Red, a sort of cream with gold ribbon and binding. It weighs 168 g and I would say the felt is very similar to that in my Whippet and Open Roads from the same era.

Great sewing machine. I remember really wanting to find one of those at one time. It sews a two thread chain stitch, doesn't it?

Thanks Michael, not sure that I'll leave the leather on. It's not really my style. On the other hand, the hat is dirty and discolored it kinda adds to its ruggedness.
From what I gather the sewing machine is possibly from 1890 or so based on the serial number being part of the "A series". I've never really sewed anything, but I was facinated with it and I'm going to see if I can get it working.

There is something to be said for rugged, and for hiding stains.
I see they made special models for making straw hats and other hat work. Cool.
