Purchased from one of our frequent lurkers here. A darker shade of tan, almost light brown. Very pleased! Doggone nice hat! A keeper.

Marvelous find. For a hat that old the condition of the ribbon is just another part of that hat's history and character.

Doc, Thank you! I agree. I have a feeling the ribbon was damaged fairly recently.

Would I be right thinking this kind of tip and these kinds of tags date from sometime in the 1950s?

There is no tip protector and I can't say i see any evidence of remnants. The sweat has been replaced.

I need to get some cleaning supplies and then I will get around to the whole hat picture.

That's some cool hat for a buck a throw. And it reminds me that garage sale season is here. Must start watching craigslist and the signs.

With some rather stubborn ring around the telescope that a quick gas bath wouldn't get rid of.

3" brim, 5.5" open crown, 1" ribbon. Should make a decent around town beater. Stains or no.

I know its not a Fez , better ask Alan or Vic , if anybody would know they would . Looks Good though . Might try scrubbing the ring , or sanding , but its not super noticeable . Powder might be the only cover .

Thanks Michael. I will probably try some soap and water on it, but for today I wanted to wear it. I'm not sure if the ring is all dirt or if it is partly a change in felt density due to it having spent many years in the tight telescope bend right there.

Thanks Anthony. I know the artwork is identical to that on the 3X Open Road I was wearing this morning. But I don't think I've found the tags in the OR, or at least I've have misplaced any photos I might have taken of them. Also I didn't know if there was any significance to the lack of a tip protector. I know the felt feels the same in both of them.

Picked up this fella which was put to work for sure. The definition of a beater hat.

And loosely related I suppose, an old Willcox & Gibbs sewing machine. Uncharted territory for me as I don't know too much about it, but it was calling my name.
