P1200337 crop by Michael A2012, on FlickrI don't know about current production, but this one from 2004 (per the sales slip), is very nice! It looks black cherry, black, or dark brown depending on the light.I'm not a big fan of brown hats, but I really like the look of this one!
Love the Pug! Keep the feather! These shots in the sun show the sheen of the finish. Very slick.

I figure we will get a few more days here in the Northwest of heat before the snow flies. I'm the only one around that even has a clue that straws should have been put away for the year yesterday! I can sneak a day or two in with my straws before the end of the month.I'm guessing ca. 1960, but whatever... it's just PERFECT, Red!! Congrats.
And just so you don't feel like the Lone Ranger, take comfort in knowing I also have a Dobbs Milan from about the same era arriving early next week. In my size, I have to grab them when I find them.
Very sweet. Our Goodwill is full of baseball caps...no luck for months!I found this Pilgrim today at the Goodwill mixed in with the costume Halloween hats.

Very nice. The felt looks fantastic! Thanks Charlie!
Me too. Their felt and colors are astounding. The finishes are superb
They are a sort of a puzzle: made in the seventies or sixties at least they have very old label, under the sweatband, of Borsalino fu Lazzaro factory.
There just has to be some sort of "Radar" you have to find these gems....amazing.It is an old hat and seeing it makes my day. The smell of paper would likely indicate rayon. Silk smells like burnt human hair. Rayon seems most common after 1910. The quality of the fringe and rumple reminded me of this hat, which is c.1905 and has a silk ribbon.

Geez..super nice and clean...great find! I was seeing a few hat boxes on eBay for those hats...if you need one for it you may find one or two still available!More of this new arrival in the Stetson Flagship thread.

Now off to enjoy it!
Thanks Fruno! I have had some good luck since I decided to stop snapping at minnows and wait for the nice fat salmon to swim by...
I haven't seen Petersham on too many other men's hats either. Just one more special thing about it. Ole's post in the Flagship thread seems to indicate Petersham was used on the earliest models.
Awesome!!!I found this Pilgrim today at the Goodwill mixed in with the costume Halloween hats.

John Lofgren Monkey Boots Shinki Horsebuttt - $1,136 The classic monkey boot silhouette in an incredibly rich Shinki russet horse leather.
Grant Stone Diesel Boot Dark Olive Chromexcel - $395 Goodyear welted, Horween Chromexcel, classic good looks.
Schott 568 Vandals Jacket - $1,250 The classic Perfecto motorcycle jacket, in a very special limited-edition Schott double rider style. Yep I sure do understand about things being original on some super nice vintage hats. I think when it comes to having something made, however, to then dibble dabble with different colors and textures of ribbons can actually make a hat so one of a kind. I also think (we at times maybe do not think of this but I know some do here) at a point in time when we are mere dust to the wind, maybe a hundred or so years down the road...can you imagine even some of these vintage hats we love so much still being worn by others that love the look like we do? Imagine someone even finding some of our Customs we have had made!?! I can see someone opening a box, and pulling out a hat made by some of our own resident Custom Hatters...and having that wide ear to ear smile just like we do when we find a gem like the Flagship hat you have been lucky enough to grab up! I do not see why this would not be the case! For now, we here in our home do treasure every single fedora and cap! How blessed are we to own the fedora hats we do! A few customs from sources closer to home and now from what the charming Esther has made...and waiting for more to show up at the door. Thanks Luv! I may just have to look for one of those boxes so I can keep it protected.
I think that the main issue with the Petersham vs. a straight edged grosgrain is just a matter of traditional use on women's vs. men's hats. I like a straight edge better but it's a very minor issue. I'm not going to mess with original equipment on a hat this nice if I don't need to.![]()
