Interesting. I've learned something new. Now you'll have to start a 'Show us Your Leghorns' thread, since they're so hard to come by. I'm sure it gets mistaken for a Milan quite easily.

Yet another Stetson 3x

I love these things, tough durable workingman's hats made to take a likin'.

This makes the second this week. I wish the embroidered liner was in this one as well, but I have a spare, unless this one is sewn in place.

Anyone know the cryptic meaning in this behind the sweatband stamp?

Alan,

Great hat! When I first saw it on EBay I had a feeling you would be watching it :)

Do you think the "Tailored Edge" has to do with the sweatband rather than the brim? The brim doesn't look like it has had anything special done to it.

I don't think so... this type of imprint and branding (i.e. mode-edge, selv-edge) from the late 1930s seems to apply to brim edge treatments. As RLK pointed out in the pre-1940s Stetson Western thread, "Tailored Edge" appears in advertising as "new" in connection with an early Whippet model in 1937. Despite the many Whippets that have passed through these pages, I can't recall seeing one that early or one with a raw rather than ribbon bound brim edge. I might have guessed this brim to be cut, had it not been for this sibling auctioned off by a lounge member earlier this year.

Alan, I have a hat that I posted in the Whippet thread that has a raw edge. I've always assumed it was either trimmed or the Whippet liner was put into a different hat.

Here is the hat: RawWhippet

The liner doesn't look anywhere near the 30's....

Yes, that liner and sweatband appear to be 1950s era. I worked on the clear nutria hat this morning. It appears to be original as a 322 block 5 1/2" crown with a brim width of 3"... perhaps the influence of more urban western wear that would ride into town in a bigger way with the Open Road.
