Western hats aren't really my thing, but this one is pretty cool. I particularly like the leatherwork, and the felt is very nice. :)

O’Farrell out of Durango, Colorado. Custom Western in a nice sand-colored felt, with a redonkulous 4 1/8" brim and a beautifully tooled leather hatband.

Custom made for George A. Heitczman, a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania attorney who practiced law for more than 50 years.

That is one nice buy.

I've always enjoyed Bob's @BobHufford collection of O'Farrell hats. It looks good on you, so even though you're not into Westerns, you can count yourself lucky that you have an O'Farrell.

The Stratoliner I was worried about showing up came last weekend. I'm glad I asked the auctioneer for more pictures of it, the auction photo just showed "a hat." The photos he sent were potato quality but it looked like it was in good shape and it was my size. Lucked out on the auction I'm sure because the single photo he posted didn't give anyone anything to go on.

I'm guessing mid 40s to very early 50s based on the liner, sweatband embossment and reorder tag. The sweatband seems to be of higher quality than most of the 50s Stetsons I have so I'm inclined to lean it towards the earlier side. It needs a little bit of cleaning but it's in great shape.

I had been on the fence for one of these straw variations of a Stetson open Road for two or three years now. Straw season is all but over, but I went ahead and made the purchase. The vent and the weave looks pretty much identical to the 10 X but this one does not have a quality designation, although it was $20+ more than the 10 X. My military veteran’s discount helped to ease my pain.

The 10 X was listed as a 4” crown where this one was listed as 4 1/4” crown. Maybe that’s where the extra $20 comes from.

100% Shantung straw in cognac. I figure I can get a few more wears out of this before straight felt season.

Here are some other purchases made between late spring and summer of this year.
They were a lot of two French hats from brands I know very well: Fléchet and Tirard.
What drew me to them was the felt; both are made from special felt.
Flechet Caioule A.jpg
The Fléchet features a medium-nap finish and very pliable felt.
Titard Negre C.jpg
The Tirard is made of *Rat-Gondin*—or nutria—felt; it has a wonderful feel, color, and luster. The seller listed them as "large,"
Flechet Caioule C.jpg
but in reality, the Fléchet is a size 57 cm
Tirard Negre B.jpg
and the Tirard *Rat-Gondin* is a 56.
Both suffered from heavy exposure to water during their eventful lives;

the Tirard needs a new sweatband,

whereas the Flechet withstood the rain and is wearable.
Personally, I view them as "project hats" to be reshaped according to one's own taste.
This lot can serve as a testing ground for making hats—or, even better, you could use a hatter to breathe new life into these felt pieces.
Felt of this quality won't be available for much longer :)

Love the look of that open weave, and should help in the summer. I keep debating between one of these and a hemp OR. I love my hemp Strat!

Brummel's Luxor. Nice felt on this one, unfortunally the yellow protection liner is missing, but overall in mint condition. My guess late 50's, early 60's. It's a bit snug, so i have to stretch it a bit. But that would work.

Unfortunately it's missing? I'd say that's a plus!
