Jack Diamond Gay Prince clone. This is marked as a “Diamond Ten” and as a 3X Beaver. I’m thinking it could be a 1940s hat, but that’s just a guess. Overall nice condition with a few marks, but no moth damage. The felt is exactly what you’d expect a $10 hat if this era to feel and behave like. 2 1/2” wide brim and 5 3/4” tall open crown. I thought it might have been made by Caxton or McLachlan, but it appears not. The sweatband resembles the Cushion Air I’ve seen on other hats, but there isn’t any markings supporting this.

This hat needs a home so shoot me a PM if you’re interested.

Looks like a well made hat and that style sweatband certainly points towards Norwalk as the place of manufacture.

A few of the expected new ones came in. Here's the first.

Morreton extra luxe in grey for Henry of Marseille. Size 56 with the raw edge brim at 5,5cm and the fairly low crown at 9,5cm at the center dent. Morreton was a midtier manufacturer in general, even if they did make some exceptional hats on occasion, and this hat reflects that. Certainly not bad but nothing spectacular either. No labels under the sweat, so not much else I can tell you. The most remarkable feature about this one is the size printed on the sweatband bow, which is a first.

Number two and here we go again; another hat sold as a size 62, but which was measured around the outside. It is actually a size 58. Modern(ish) Borsalino in a wine red colour called Porto. Raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. It is a men's hat but to my eye this is not a men's hat colour. Nothing wrong with the hat though. Label shows it dates from 1982.

Galeries Lafayette Hatters of Paris opera hat (or tuxedo hat) in black. Size 57 (I think, because it is roomy for me), with the brim at 6cm and the crown at 12cm at the center dent. Very similar in style to the Willoughby one @drmaxtejeda has. The brim binding runs right along the underside of the brim where it is attached to the liner. There is no obvious sweatband. The quality of felt and finishing is exceptional. Because Galeries Lafayette is a department store (founded in 1893) and there's no way to look anywhere for labels the manufacturer will remain a mystery.

The good: I just got this hat that I think is the most beautiful hat I own. I’ve never liked brown hats much but this color combo just blew me away. I also have always wanted a 1940s Resistol non-Western fedora ala the Bogie ads. It’s a beautiful thing, fits perfectly (self-conforming!) and, married to a Kansas girl, gets extra points from me for hailing from the sunflower state.

The bad: heavy mothing. When I first started lurking on the FL I thought guys posting photos of themselves in moth eaten hats looked nuts. And now I’m one of them. Numerous divots on the crown and top of brim.

The ugly: total carnage on the bottom of the brim, shown here in raking light to bring out the damage.

When all is said and done it’s a gorgeous beater I will proudly wear around the neighborhood and out to a bar and not have to worry about keeping it pristine.

But if you see another one like this in 7 1/8–be sure and let me know!

A wider brim Resistol fedora is on a lot of people’s lists. Those are great hats and while I don’t like moth damage it’s just something we accept when buying vintage hats. Your Resistol looks great.

Nice find, David. Shame about the moth wear. Then again, it just shows they have as great a taste in hats as we do

It's still a desirable Resistol. They're among my favourite American hatmakers.

I agree. Would I prefer a hat without moth damage? Sure. But if it's there, it's not going to keep me from wearing a hat if I like it enough. As GuitarGuy wrote, it's character.
