Now where getting somewhere.
GB Borsalino fu Lazzaro bowler hat. Model is called Scutari. Size 58 with the brim at 5cm and the crown about 13cm (as far as I can tell). It has one of these sweatbands (in white) with the seam at the side, rather than the back. We've seen more examples of this on bowlers. No idea why this was done.
Great hand to the felt and the quality is excellent. The brim binding and liner show their age a bit though.

I love it.

I just got this weird Stetson. I like weird stuff and what immediately got my attention was that it has a connection to my favorite flying saucer town. It’s a Stetson that came from a Roswell shop probably within a decade or two of the “crash” which was still fresh on everybody’s minds. I tried to research the store but came up empty. Anyhoo - It’s a cool color with a cool box too, so what the heck.

Once it arrived today I noticed some other weirdness. It only has half a bow in the ribbon! Lol was that a thing? Oh well it really doesn’t hurt it. Maybe an extraterrestrial abducted the other half. That’ll be my story.

Really I do like this thing and It’ll get a lot of wear. I think it looks fine with the brim snapped down or up. The feather didn’t come with it - I stuck it in for the picture. I doubt I’ll keep it there. Or maybe I will.

A Borsalino Alessandria has been on my wish list for a long time but usually out of my price range when they appear. Lucked out with this beauty originally sold in a little town about an hour and a half from El Paso.

I have to say this thing is resetting my concept of a thin ribbon. The quality is unbelievable—definitely not a tough work hat like an OR-but incredibly light weight and easy to shape. The dimensions and shape are perfect—for me the 2 5/8 brim is ideal.

The only condition issue is some popped threads at the front of the sweatband—the only other hat I have this problem with is another 1950s Borsalino. Have others experienced this? Looks like it should be easy for someone to sew up—has anyone had this done or done it themselves?

Very happy to be sporting this on such a beautiful autumn day.

That is crazy cool. Thank you. I honestly tried searching that every which way I could and came up with nothing. Just a bunch of flying saucer ball caps, and stuff like that. I like this lounge more and more every day.

I like the look of it. And, yes, those half-bow ribbons were a thing at one time. I have a few hats with that treatment.

Thanks- That’s very interesting. I think the half bow is a bit quirky in a good way and I like it. I’m learning new things every day it seems.

Received a Royal Stetson "Homburg" that's a sixties era short-brimmed (2") fedora. I'm not going to beef about it being mis-labeled as I've been pretty lucky with my vintage purchases so far; but, this is the first I've gotten with any moth divots.

There are two on the top and another two in the rear.
Here I am trying to pull off the "it's a Homburg" look.

But here's a real Homburg:

This Scala "Godfather" is one of the first hats I bought a year ago, but it's too big. I'm going to take it and another early purchase (Scala's Bristol, which I've been wearing as a rain hat) and try and sell or trade them at a flea market or thrift store. Here's the Royal Stetson after I played with the bash: this shape came natural.

So, moth holes and all, I'll make this my foul weather hat. And keep looking for a vintage 'burg.

1 3/4" ribbon, plus ribbon edge
5" open crown

Plenty of homburgs to be found and I think this works quite well with the "it's a homburg look" .

Thanks. And yet, I want a homburg for special occasions and a moth eaten lid won't cut it. Until I nab a good vintage one, I have better, nicer hats to wear should I need to present myself in suit and tie.

Pity it wasn't what you were hoping for, Granville. Still, it looks a pretty nice Stetson short brim. I decided a while back that moth holes are part of a vintage hat's patina

This just arrived. I hadn’t been planning to buy, but this one was my size, the right brim width, and the right color. I have been looking for it. At this point I’m going to slow down the acquisitions for a while. Now to figure out how I want to do the crown.
