That’s a good woman you have! One of these days I’m going to walk around not Buckaroo Hatters and order a custom. Maybe when I retire…one more thing to look forward to. GREAT hat!

Picked this one up yesterday, from Buckaroo Hatters in Covington Tn. 100% beaver in Navy Blue.

Never thought I’d like a blue hat, but it turned out well to me. Was trying to copy the old Stetson Big Four.
Edit, I forgot to give dimensions, it came out just shy of 6” crown, and also just shy of 4” brim after the curl.

Swann hat manufactured by the Swann Abram Hat Co., Louisvillle, KY. Not a lot of information or many hats out there that I’ve seen in regards to this co. Some American Hatter info from the 1880’s indicating they were in operation and a few other bits and pieces. Saw an ad from 1895 and an order card published in 1942 for “Victory Hats”. Saw a few writings that they were the first with the Kentucky Derby hats but I’ve found no examples. Nothing beyond the 1942 example. The former hat factory is now the Grady Hotel. A 51 room boutique spot near downtown Louisville. The lounge is called the Wild Swann. The only other hat I’ve found was a Clear Nutria fedora RLK had for sale in 2013.

This particular hat is also in Clear Nutria and is as black as a hole. Dimensions are 3 x 6 OC with a shoestring ribbon. Slight flange. The felt is a western weight that is very dense and fairly thin with a nice smooth finish. The brim is firm but workable and the crown is also firm but has that clay like malleability I associate with 7X CB’s and such.

Stevens Pace Setter - The Royalist
Blue Grey Felt - Early 1960-ish
4 3/4 Crown as shaped
1 1/4 Stylish Ribbon
2 1/4 Brim with bound edge

This blue grey Stevens gives a glimpse into the quality and styling Stevens Hats was producing in the decade leading up to being granted the license for producing all the Stetson hats in the US. It caught my eye as being almost mint shape with a neato ribbon treatment and this very cool Stevens ribbon hanger size tag. It came in a couple days ago and today I had the time to clean it up. Not that it really needed much…. A good brushing released plenty of dust… and some steam to smooth out a few spots and tweak the crease. Silly me I managed to drop the hanger tag while I was steaming and not realize it till after a rain storm ran me off the patio. Found it in a puddle afterwards. I think it will survive though. There are a few very small moth nibbles here and there. But overall a very clean hat and I really like the styling. It gets the honor of being the first hat photographed against the newly painted wall. Out with the orangy-yellow “bran muffin” and in with “Dormer Brown”

In my rarefied presence on FL I have a few hats to show you

Guerra 1855 is one of the less present brands on the vintage Italian hat market.

Active until today, the company had until a few years ago a website on which to see the production, now it seems to have vanished.

I have a few hats from this brand in my collection so having found one I bought it out of pure curiosity because I really don't need another hat in brown.
1855 Guerra Indiana, from the indications of the internal label, it measures 59 cm. it is equivalent to saying a 7 3/8 in the US.

The hat is carefully constructed on the wave of Indiana Jones fashion with Italian rendering

These are the measures of the hat: brim at 6.5 centimeters; height of the open crown 13 cm. and the ribbon is 4cm.

The felt is of medium weight and very malleable, the color is a classic of Italian hats and a brown called "Dattero" by Borsalino.

The weight is exactly 100 grams. It arrives in excellent condition, it appears to have been used very little.

I confess that I have let go of a lot of bowler hats in this period, I hope not to sadden FL friends in love with this hat.

Some were interesting, but the often small size or the exaggerated price kept me away from them.

This bowler hat has two features that attracted me.
It is a G.B. Borsalino fu Lazzaro and has a pleated bow that makes it less usual than others

Second reason it has a quite unusual size 5 1/2 which is equivalent to a 58 cm.

It is well preserved and is, unlike many of its companions, light.

These are the measures, the curled brims reach 5 cm ; the crown is 13 cm. and the ribbon measures 3 centimeters.

There are some small flaws such as a slight deformation of the anterior brim visible in the photograph. A very slight trace of dust on the edge of the brims.

Many of you know that I don't have bowler hats in my collection, so anyone interested should write to me privately
It's not like I find such pearls for medium-sized heads every day ;-)

We share the same size and I never found in many years a bowler, in the Italian market, to "cover" our heads

I absolutely agree with you. I have a doubt? Who made the hats for Guerra 1855? May be Panizza? I see that now they came fron Tuscany as the actual Panizza

Stefan (@steur ) was close in his guess that this one would turn out to be a Stetson Railbird, but it turns out to be an anonymous model that is very similar.

It does have the 2-1/4" brim with triple stitching, but the crown is a bit shorter at 5-1/4" (4-1/4" as creased).

For comparison, here is Anthony's ( @moontheloon ) former Railbird.

The one that came with the faux Railbird was this stingy thin-ribbon Stetson Royal De Luxe.

This one sports a 1-7/8" brim with over-welt and a 5" crown (4-1/2" as creased).

Neither of these two hats had factory stickers behind the sweat (that I could see).

Some pomade was used in the wearing of this hat ...
