It’s alright. I don’t think I’ll be getting any more felt hats past Etsuko for a while. I will try for a couple of straw this summer. I’m thinking Sunbody.

Thanks, Brent. It was in fact one of those what I call lottery hats that get offered so cheap you don't really have anything to lose. This time I got lucky.

I love photos where you can really tell how great the felt is. This is a special hat and I hope the new owner appreciates it.

Thanks, Joe. Most makers can do an ordinary felt, but these lightweights take serious skill to get right. That's why I like them.

I think the true panama is a dying breed, so worth getting while they're still around. Not many new weavers in Ecuador are willing to break their backs for a pittance, and who can blame them? Maybe not the highest grades, but at least you can wear these without an extra insurance.

If it was for Daniele, I guess I can forgive you. I know you have me down as a 60, but my true size is a long oval 59. I tried a modern Strat in a shop recently (going for an arm and three legs) and 59 was perfect. My Hornskovs and new Akubras have all been 59 and are my best fitting hats. I tried some modern Borsalinos on recently and found 60-61 to be the best fit…just so you know

True, but I have fewer straw hats so there are some empty boxes in winter and a little space for more straw when the felt hats are in their boxes. All that means a higher chance of getting the go ahead.

It finally arrived after been sent on a detour to the mainland.

Hückel Standard, Crystal Velour. The felt is soft and velvety compared to my Hückel Novo Velour and the Flexible Velour I exchanged with Panos.

The brim is 5.5cm, crown height at the front crease 10.5cm, the grosgrain ribbon is 4.5cm. French size 5 1/2, so fits perfectly.

Ca. 1930s, though maybe the "Paris Grand Prix 1900" stamp on the front of the sweat can place it more precisely. I don't recall having seen this stamp before.

The extra bonus is, it was sold in Denmark's oldest, still in existence hat shop, Petitgas. Established in 1857, the same year as Borsalino.

Borsalino Alessandria, color i guess it's like moss or something. Not received yet. According to @steur it's '90's so not really old. But for 40 euro i take the chance. Pictures from the seller.

1940s Dobbs
Thick luxurious Black felt
5 1/2 ish open crown
2 inch ribbon black cherry
2 1/8 brim with 3/8 binding

With the lounge closed… this one had to wait a few days for its debut. @Just Daniel sent me a heads up for this 40s Dobbs at an excellent Buy it Now with the note… “This 40s Dobbs has your name on it”. being that somehow it was still there the next morning when I had the chance take a look, I had to go for it. It may be another short brimmed black hat.. but this is far from Just Another short brimmed black hat. I do love my shorter brimmed hats… but it is nice to find a short brim that isn’t the run of the mill 60s kinda hat. The dark black felt is a bit on the thick and luxurious side… but VERY obedient. The grosgrain ribbon and brim binding have just a tinge of black cherry coloring. Which I am not sure if it isn’t just from fading over the years or it’s original.. but it was something that drew me to the hat. The brim dutifully snaps up and down but it really seems to shine when it is turned up in this almost a casual homburg kinda shape. No manufacturing tags I could find under the sweat… just a $12.50 price tag from Klopfenstein‘s. In the absence of the manufacturing tag, the roundel logo was the biggest hint to a 40s hat. I chose to wear this hat this weekend as we said our goodbyes to our friend and family members Mike as I knew he would have loved this one. What I didn’t expect was to get more compliments about my hat than just about ever before. As Daniel said… this one has my name on it… Sometimes I think some of you all here know me better than I do. Thank you for thinking of me.

Wonderful hat, Steve. These old Hückels are always worth going for. Soon you'll have more Petitgas hats than the shop itself!
