Another old hat from the same auction. Listed as "Antique Mens Felt Hat No Size" ... turns out it is about a size 7 based on measurement photos they added later. Still ... I had to give it a shot and was happy when $56 bought this one.

This was an odd hat I kept seeing on eBay week after week. Eventually my curiosity got the better of me. Calfas Hatters Hartford, Conn. it’s a charcoal felt with a black ribbon. The overwelt brim is two inches wide and the open crown is approximately 5 1/4 inches. The felt has a decent hand and is thin and easily shaped dry. The liner is sewn in and there aren’t any labels hiding behind the sweatband which is supple.

It measures 7 3/4” by 6 1/8” so approximately a size 6 7/8. $14 worth of curiosity :)
It’s going on the giveaway pile so send me PM if you want it.

Nice wide ribbon and bow treatment, Brent. Interesting find. I'm sure it will find a good home.

Looks nice enough, Brent. I like the shape of it.

It's styling certainly reminds me of modern Borsalinos.

My curiosity got the better of me once more.
Fauvet velour in black. Size 57 (I think) with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. It is certainly old and of good quality. Not Hückel levels of velour but certainly well made. No label inside the hat unfortunately and the liner is at the end of the line. Most remarkable is that the nap is brushed clockwise. I had the hardest time getting it to behave at first until it dawned on me the nap was the other way around. Pity about the liner.

The auction for these two Borsalinos didn't have great pics and I never heard back on my request to confirm sizes. The tags could have been for 7-1/2 and 7-5/8 and the price was worth the chance. No such luck -- these are 7-1/4 and 7-3/8 (with a loose Long Oval tag I'm pretty sure doesn't go with the hat). Off to the 'Bay I guess.

Pretty nice felt on both of these! I went from open crown to the creases seen with just two easy swipes of my had. Wish I could keep 'em. Can someone tell me the estimated dates? The "Fu Lazaro" is from the later run (way post 1936).

I didn't see anything obvious behind the sweat and was a little leery of checking more until I can condition the front (where "Allesandria" is imprinted) as it was a bit stiff from sweat.

I saw that a few days ago for a really great price. In my investigation, I saw in an add in Japan with the same label but with Borsalino written where Seyata is on this liner. It looked like it was made for the Orthodox Jews. So it appears this is a Borsalino from what I could find.

New arrival this week.
Borsalino homburg in potassio colour. Didn't have one of those yet. Size 56 with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown at 10cm at the center dent. Qualitá Augusta made especially for JS Meuwsen of Amsterdam.

More in the Italian brand hats thread.

Thanks. I went into more depth in the Italian Hat Brands thread. It does remind me of the modern religious market Borsalinos.
