J. Hückel´s Söhne "Aero", French Point Size 5 1/2, possibly later 1930s maybe a bit later. I don't believe I have seen a "Aero" before so very happy about finding this one. The gray mixed color felt is really fantastic and easily dry creases. The sweatband is not in good condition so I wasn't able to take photos of the paper label.

That is fantastic, Steve. Super looking felt and the shape of it is just lovely. It may show its age here and there, but it does so with pride.

R. & M. Wegener, 58cm possibly late 1920s. I was happy to find this hat because pre WWII R. & M. Wegener Soft Felts are a rare find. I have one other so this makes two and there are no others here. The felt color and finish are fantastic, same with the form and dressing. Unfortunately the paper label is missing but there is a small size tag.

Mike does really good work. Please post detailed pictures when you get a chance. Congratulations!
I'm always happy to hear good reports about Mike Gannon and his hats. I just ordered mine after communicating with many on Fedora Lounge. All who convinced me that I'd never regret getting one of this products. Looking forward to receiving it but it's gonna be probably 7 more weeks. :( But once it arrives I'll be certain to show it off on here. :D

Borsalino Export Qualität homburg in Mirtillo colour. Size 58 (7 1/4 American), with the brim a smidge over 5,5cm and the crown 10,5cm at the pinch. Blue homburg hats are always of interest, but this has something else worth of note too. The price label was still inside and it was dated. While I would have put this one in the late sixties to early seventies it was in fact dated 110479, so 1979. It cost 63,75 DM then. I don't know how much that would be today but it wasn't cheap.
Anyway, here it is.

Echter Mayser homburg in grey. Size 57, with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown 10cm at the pinch. Quality is called Superbe on the label (which I have not seen before). The liner is glued in so not a very early one; I'm thinking mid to late sixties.

Three homburgs from the north
They have a common denominator, the narrow and very arched (cambrate in Italian hatters language) brims.
The Wegener, for his age, is the closest as a form to the original hat that gave the name of this type of hat
Three magnificent examples. Very, very beautiful.
Congratulations!

Borsalino again. Sold to me as a size 62, which would perhaps have made someone on the lounge happy, but it is in fact a size 60, Which may also make someone happy, but not the same person. These don't come around much in the larger sizes.
Borsalino homburg in black. Size 61/2 punti (60 European) with the brim at 6cm and the crown 11cm at the pinch. A commanding hat in very nice condition.

Thanks, Daniele. "Cambrate"; I like the way that sounds. Must remember that term.

Man, there are some very fine recent acquisitions!

I was up in Eric’s neck of the woods in, Minneapolis and Saint Paul, @Short Balding Guy for a quick day and a half and looked in Heime’s Haberdashery and a little place called Wescott Station antiques.

I was impressed with some of the felts being used by Stetson and Dobbs for new production hats but off the shelf hats were still at custom hat prices there. I did find a nice Borsalino Alessandria in great shape save for a little light mothing on the upper brim, and took it home.

I have been to antique stores in Wisconsin, but haven't found hats in them. Are the prices comparable to what the same hat would cost on eBay? Are there real bargains found in them sometimes?

Antique stores and vintage clothing emporiums can be all over the map. Normally, a hat can be had at a location like this for considerably less than eBay. Dealers realize their market is smaller than eBay and price accordingly. Of course, many think they can get eBay prices in their limited foot traffic location, as well. Those hats sit there for longer.

In my experience, estate sales are the best bet. Many of my great finds were the result of estate sales.
