His old Beaver Brand western was given some new life. I’m not sure it qualifies for the Conversion Corral as all I did was some reshaping and trimming down the brim. This one was lower crowned than some of my recent conversions: 6.0” open with just a bit of taper.

Like so many of my projects, this one will get a new ribbon once my grosgrain order comes in.

@AbbaDatDeHat : I don’t think that I’d make any permanent alterations to your black Borsalino. I like it as it is, but if you get a wild hair...?

Before (yesterday):

I trimmed the brim to 3.25 inches, partially reblocked the crown (I did not remove the sweat); ironed, steamed, and shaped the brim; steamed the crown to open and spent several minutes removing the remnants of the old factory crease (lots of steam).

I don’t know that I would have ever wore it as a western, but as a western/fedora hybrid I’m sure it will get some head time (in colder months).

As an observation: This Beaver Brand has some very nice dense felt and is MUCH nicer than the Resistol 3X, 4X, and 5X hats I usually convert. I’ll be looking for more of these.

I like what you did with it. And thanks for the comments on Beaver Brand felt. I have been curious about the Western BB's.

Black hats...I mostly think of them as formal wear. I like black in Homburgs and bowlers, but I’m hesitant for everyday hats. I do like how this hat came out. It weighs three times what a dress weight hat body would but it’s hell-for-stout.

My Resistol San Antonio came while I was camping last week. Here it is, out of the box. Haven't brushed or steamed it yet. The felt is nicer than anything else I have. I will post photos on Resistol Roundup and the Other Open Roads.

On Monday, one of our fellowship directed the statement "You need it" at me.

Well... I got it.
I dig it.

Cavanagh lord's hat with a peacock feather band.

I like it! Very nice color, and hairy finish. A neat compliment to your other Cavanagh Lords hat. Now Huggy won't feel alone!

Wow!
That was quick!
I didn't think peacocks could fly that fast... :)
Looks great on you. I can see you now seeking out fuzzy feathered Lords' Hats like Jim with Daltons.

Fastest shipping I think that I've ever received. Less than two days. And it came all the way from Dallas.

I'm frightened because I can see me looking for them, too. A surprising development in my hat tastes.

Rehfus Hutfabrikanten / & Cie. "Olympia Extra Quality", Size French Point 5 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably mid to later 1950s. I don't come across many Rehfus hats so was very happy to find this one. The felt is medium weight with a smooth finish and a very smooth hand. Rehfus & Cie / Hutfabrikanten is from the Kehl am Rhein, Germany which is directly across from Strasbourg / Strassburg so probably the reason for using French Point Sizing which is unusual (maybe the only one post WWI) for German Hat Companies.

Echter Borsalino "Gulaela" Export Qualität, French Point Size 6 1/2, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably later 1950s. The overall condition is excellence. The medium weight "Pomice/Pumice" color felt is fantastic. It easily dry creases and has an fine hand. I didn't take a photo of the paper label but it doesn't have the vertical "Borsalino" on the left side. "Export Qualität" was added around the mid to later 1950s and "Echter Borsalino" was dropped in the early 1960s. "Export Qualität" remained in use until the mid 1980s but eventually fell out of use after the original Borsalino factory was closed and the company was sold.
