Actually one of my favorite hatters, Roy at Jaxonbilt makes a fine example. I'm going to contact him and see what he suggests. I have a huge melon, plus the fact that I have a long oval head makes buying vintage impossible so I need to go custom.

sounds about right ... many hatters make a great clone ... would love to see what Jaxonbilt makes for you

If you can find one in the right size, you or a hatter will be able to stretch/manipulate it into a long oval. I don't believe that to be different from most modern customs. It's my impression that many (not all, though) custom hats are blocked, brim pressed and flanged as a regular oval - and then manipulated into the desired oval.

Speaking of manipulating, this one's gonna need a little. It's marked 7 3/8 but is considerably snug. I guess it shrank. That's the breaks buying hats on the ebay. I've had a run of decent luck size wise lately, guess it was about time.

Resistol sewn braid straw. Im guessing 60s or 70s. An interesting color, in the right light it takes on a silvery gray tint.

It is a nice color and maybe it "conformed" to the old owners head...? ;)

Picked up this early O'Farrell (of Durango) from an on-line auction. No size and I had to trust that the measurement might work. It did fit thank goodness (sorry for your shrinkage Dale). No markings under the sweat so the date is a mystery.

Needs some shaping and a different ribbon or band. I still need to figure out how not to make my "wish my bifocals were on the top of my glasses" face.

THX. All credit goes to Shane @ Peters Bros. Darn thing's 5 1/2" at the front peak. I think I want to tighten the pinch and drop the back a bit for a rake, though...

Don't we have a Peters Bros thread around here somewhere? I'll put the daylight photos there.
There's is a Peter Bros thread and I think your tweaks will be spot on.

I walked in and ordered this on January 21. I got it yesterday. Their lead time on felt, however, was next October. If you ordered now, you should have it by Straw Hat Day, I would think.
