What a beautiful hat. Reading through your comments, I was struck by the amount of learning that must be involved with each hat, and I was wondering about your very first steps. How'd you get started, and what made you decide to take the plunge? I should add that I have nothing but admiration for people who make fine things.

And a Campdraft in Greengrass blue.... I need to get info on how to crease it !!!!

Both very nice. Pick your bash. Crease the CD dry. Take your time. Crease slowly and gently. No sharp creases you my want to change your mind. Once u have something u like steam it heavily from a tea kettle and set the bash/crease. I've only done 3 open crowns but this works for me. I also spray with a fine distilled h2o mist to open up the fibers and stiffen the creases.

Today I'm a happy camper as I got my second vintage Playboy, this one in a light grey;

it needed a little steam, brushing and a little ironing out the wavy brim on the flange

This one is a later model, somewhere in the 50's I'd guess

Leaf logos instead of stars like my 40's model and it's got a ventilated liner like you see in some straw hats. maybe a replacement? It is exactly like my other one in every other way. Same dimensions, similar finish and stiffness (that is not much, both Playboys are more on the floppy side than my other vintage Stetsons)

Wow the tan one is a thing of beauty !!!

You're wlcm. Once u get there, to even things out u can tweak and fine tune from inside the crown outwards. So much fun to do you're own bash. Njoy!

Nice work on the loden hat Moehawk. I just finished one for a customer that wanted a green hat for his upcoming trip to Ireland. He loved the loden green felt and picked out a 1 1/2" forest green ribbon to compliment it. I must say I think he pulls it off very well.

My new Akubra Fed 4 Deluxe Dark Brown just arrived today. I put a quick dry bash on it took some pictures of it. For some reason colors on these pictures are just wrong...



I´m going to finish the bash with some steam or water later.

Thanks ingineer. Yep, I also build cigar box instruments. Guitars, ukes, banjos, dulcimers, etc. All great fun to build and play!
