A box arrived at my house on Saturday from David Morgan's. The wife informed me that it was "that Australian" hat I wanted. But it's for Christmas and I'm not allowed to open it. I made the point that I needed to try it on in case it didn't fit, and access was granted. I tried on my Akubra Stylemaster, which did fit...and back in the box it went...what a great looking hat.
Manfred, Great find with the Tress & Co Derby! Looks like it was never worn. Tress & Co. were one of the exhibitors at 1876 Centennial International Exhibition (see thread below).
David, Your Stetson Sovereign Twenty is fantastic! You are on a roll!
J. Hückel´s Söhne Elastic Melone, measures ~ 58cm, 134 grams. Really unique liner color and in very good condition. Probably 1930s. This from a non eBay seller.
J. Hückel´s Söhne Velour, measures 59cm, probably 1930s. Missing the liner but rare greenish Velour. Not sure of the model because the paper label is damaged. Same seller as the Elastic Melone.
Mayserwegener - I've seen a lot of fuzzy hats around here since I stopped in, but that is the hands down softest, most luxurious looking one yet. If I put that on I think I'd have to take a nap.
Steve, beautiful velour. I can relate to the difficulty photographing some hats, especially under artificial light.
This arrived today, a Stetson Playboy in Almond tan, with a really nice rose-fade ribbon. I'm dating this one from mid-'40s to early '50s based on the crest details, the price tag, the liner, etc. It has a 2.75 inch brim, which may place it closer to the mid-'40s. One of our Stetson experts may be able to pin it down more closely.
